It's time for our first meeting since the first ever Australian shrimp championship! We look forward to seeing some new faces alongside the regulars :) Doors open from 12ish. Address 29 grant street, Clifton hill. We have organized 2 talks for this upcoming meet: ~The first is David Mai (Mr MSS himself). David had the pleasure of visiting Japan earlier this year and will be providing us with some photos and insight from his trip. It's a great way to see some sexy shrimp, learn some of the differences between the hobby here versus overseas but David can also provide comparisons between Japan and Vietnam as well (which he visited last year). ~Next up Paul O'Leary and Jamie "Newbreed" 2 of the only 5 people in Australia with the bragging right of being an Australian shrimp championship judge will be going through the procedure and standards for picking the best looking shrimp in town. If you wondered how the shrimp were judged, how to pick the best show group for the next show or some pointers or direction for your own breeding goals then this will answer all your questions. Following these talks we will once again have a round table discussion on shrimp keeping; this is a much more social, open discussion where everyone can chime up. This is a great way to share your triumphs, knowledge or difficulties in the shrimp room, to gain advice, share a useful piece of wisdom or ask questions that can be difficult to find answers for or which you may not want to ask online. We will also have a Trade table, Raffle and supper on the day. Beverages are supplied but please bring a plate of food to share :) IMPORTANT NOTICE ON TRADE TABLE: Please note as always there is a 10% commission on all items sold on the trade table. As this is our 4th meeting (5th event as the club) we will also be enforcing that: -unless it is your first time selling on the trade table -or attending a meeting ONLY financial members will be allowed to sell on the trade table. (membership is $20-40 per year and membership forms are available at each of our meeting).

Shrimp Club Victoria is looking for a logo. Can you help?? So, as our Club would not be the same without the input and contributions of our members and friends, we are opening it up to you to help us find a suitable image. Images need to be of a high resolution and something that we can use to produce shirts, jumpers, coffee mugs, etc. and to represent our Club in promotional materials. We ask that all images get posted on the thread on the Shrimp Club Victoria Facebook homepage. All images need to be received before Friday 29th May 2015. The Shrimp Club Victoria committee members will select their Top 5 entries prior to the next Club Meeting on Sunday 31st May. At the meeting we will put the Top 5 to a vote. All attendees will be asked to vote to help decide which logo will be the winner. The winning entrant will receive a prize pack including 7 packs of Boss Aquaria shrimp products including Snow, Crack, Baby Powder, Mineral Powder, Barley Pellets, Booster and Mineral Balls. By entering this competition, you give us permission to use your image on our future Shrimp Club Victoria merchandise, promotional materials, website and facebook page. Images need to be of your own work/image, get your thinking caps on, and get the creative vibe going!! Entries close at 11:59pm AEST Thursday 28th May 2015. Special thanks to Shrimp Club Victoria sponsor BossAquaria for providing this amazing prize!! Thanks & look forward to seeing your awesome entries!! Credit Jamie Newbreed for writing up this comp and image :)

So before lights out last night I had a look at the tank to see how everything is going and Dad has decided to let all the juvi Bristlenose out of the cave to explore, all were sitting together on the cave chilling out with Dad next to them, all up so far I have 10 juvenile Short Finned Common Bristlenose, it's the first time I've had fish breed in any of my tanks so I'm pretty happy with that.

I think Northboy mentioned in another post something like 3 hours is safe but if you wanted to turn it off for longer just make sure you dont feed for a few days. I cant find the post though.

OK, so here is a rough idea of what I'm thinking of doing with the tank, YES, I am aware at how crap my designing skills are, haha. Black background. Anubias tied to a stone.

    1. Confirm this is planaria. 2. Additives such as parasite clear should kill all planaria if dosed correctly, regardless of the number of planaria. 3. The only side effect that I envisage is that the number of planaria may increase. (Depending on the number of planaria that are in the tank now). However if the tank is being fed less than normal whilst you are away, the number of planaria may actually decrease. The number of planaria is important because if they are great in number, killing them all at once could result in an ammonia spike as they decompose. However assuming your tank is well cycled and you are only seeing a few planaria, this is unlikely to be a problem for you.

    C. zebra is found predominantly in the head waters of the Barron rv, Tully rv, Johnston rv and the Herbert rv on the Atherton table lands. There is also a population in the Tully gorge and no doubt in other lowland locations, these places are inaccessible for the most part because of the rugged terrain and dense forest. They are a rain forest shrimp and die out on disturbed creeks, most likely from siltation that occurs when they are disturbed. Average environmental tests from April to October upper Tully gorge Air temp 25 Humidity 60% Water temp 21.6 PH 7 KH 0 GH 0 Under water visibility 3mt+ Flow rate: 1 to 2 mt pr second Microsiemens 35 PPM 18 Height above sea level from 40 meters to 300 meters No flood readings taken, the access is too dangerous in the wet. Readings October/ November and March/ April Air temp 30c Humidity 85%+ Water temp high flow (not flood) 18c Water temp low flow 26c PH 7.4 av KH 0 GH 0 Under water vis even in high flow (not flood) 2mt+ Flow rate 3mt pr second Microsiemens 10 PPM 8 Height above sea level from 40 to 300 mts. These undisturbed rain forest streams run clear even in flood. There are times of the year when the PH will fall to 6.4 or there about. This is caused by the massive leaf drop at the start of the wet season and the accumulation of leaves from the previous season. The first flood washes the leaf litter away. These are all personal observations and tests taken by myself. I have some of the scientific info to add as well like, who described them where they were found and if interested some of the DNA work.
