I don't keep Crystal type shrimp, my experience with native shrimp and all fish I have kept a reading of 0 of any of the pollutants is always best, a level they can suffer would be a low as you can get it. Shrimp for the most part live in the more pristine parts of creeks where there is less likely hood of pollutants. Just a thought path for you, what I tell customers that do evap top ups and dont like water changes, lock you self in the toilet turn the water off and have three meals a day in there, after a couple of days it wont be a nice place to live, I am not point fingers or making suggestions just a thought train Bob

Good day, everyday!!! ^^ Recently, I discovered that dosing Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) at certain level may kill shrimp. Usually I keep my NO3 level at around 5ppm. If the tank does not have produce enough NO3, I will supplement it with KNO3. About a few months back, I observed a pattern of those tanks that I dose higher dosage of KNO3 has more frequent shrimp death and lower population growth when compared to those that I did not dose KNO3. All tanks have NO3 level between 5 to 10ppm. To double confirm my suspicion, I stop dosing of KNO3 in all the tanks. After that, I stop seeing any shrimp dead and the baby survival rate is much higher. As such, I decided to develop my own nitrogen supplement product. Not sure you will remember in one of my probiotic tests, my Java Fern was growing healthily even with zero NO3. This shows that plants are able to use organic substances that the probiotic produce for photosynthesis. For this nitrogen supplement, I decided to go towards this path to search for the ingredient. The previous finding is not scientific enough and I decided to test it out in a controlled environment. For the detail of the experiment, please refers to here: http://www.shrimpydaddy.com/blogs/blog/18749497-in-search-of-shrimp-safe-nitrogen-supplement-day-1 Cheers. ^^ Shrimpy Daddy

Just a little update on my Red Tibees -unfortunately I lost my TB's last year -happily replaced by Newbreed with 2 gorgeous red boys- so my program for red marbled Tibees had to make do with CRS however I'm slowly getting some results. The marbling in the reds is not as good as in the blues and blacks but now I have TB blood hopefully I can get some improvement in colour intensity . I now have a few F2 Red Tibees and some new F3 babies coming on. Unfortunately the mother of the first reds is a giant Tibee and she always lost her eggs week 2 until she got to 18 months and then she finally held. It looks like her daughters are the same as they have been berried several times but week 2 lost their eggs. At least there are a few other Tibees that hold theirs and thats where the new babies are coming from. I'm really looking forward to these bigger girls finally giving me some babies- especially since they are in with the TB's. There is still a lot of work to do but at least I now have some stock to do it with. The Red Tibees are not as prevelant as the normals I must say and getting the females to actually breed is the sticking block at the moment but I have the time and dare I say the patience so we shall see what happens from here. -Jamies boys are a bit slow they still haven't got any of my girls berried I may have put too many in there for them!! the terrible twins waiting for them to get to work

You can make your own version of salty shrimp gh + using Calcium chloride Magnesium sulphate Potassium chloride. Chlorides can be swapped put for sulphates and vice versa. In the uk these ingredients cost me the equivilent of $30 aus and thats makes about 3-4 kilos of remin.

I'll post some proposals later in the week. Won't do real photo's as they don't translate over to embroidery very well or at all. That said, we will do a SKF 2016 Calendar comp where 12 photos will get selected. The current cartoony shrimps will go and will be replaced by a different drawn shrimp. For me, the site is maturing since the transition of ownership, it's time for a more grown up logo

Here are a few Snow white/ Golden F8 Mischlings including a couple of Golden Rilis that are showing up. I am leaving them to breed to each other and these are from the tank that gave me the ?BB or ?Pinto type.

Our plan is to remove any juvies which don't match our goals, and as quality juvies come along adults will get put into display tanks around the house. All up we will have 10 shrimp only tanks, 4 display tanks inside, 10 wild betta tanks, 2 apisto tanks, 2/3 spawning tanks for fancys, and a betta barracks. Also have a lot of breeder boxes for if we need to seperate anyone/anything out.

Starting to come together now. Plumbing fittings on 4/10 tanks. This weekends job is to do the other 6. Soil in 4 tanks being cycled. Hardest part for us is all tanks are full on the rack, so it's musical tanks until all shrimp are in tanks, then we can turn the sump on. Photos will follow today

Thanks Ben the boys are really nice . Can't wait to get some babies from them. Anthony no the soil is Benbachi. It is not a tank or water issue as all the other females in the tanks carry their eggs full term. When the Giants initially started showing up in our tanks it was thought the females were sterile - quite a few people couldn't get them to breed but now it seems they are just late bloomers , once they are fully mature they breed well.
