WOW its flogging down at the moment 130mm in 4 hours this arvo. Monday and Tuesday with the onset of this Cyclone, triggered some amazing events, the most impressive has been the Riffle Shrimp, both in my ponds and local creeks. The small ones around 2.5 to 3cm have been crawling out of my ponds and climbing local water falls as well, neither time I had a camera with me, I have a couple of hundred from ponds and 50ish from a local creek, 250 in a tank it is a sight and they all want to escape so all corners have plastic tapped around them to stop escapes. It must be a new ground response, they all want to move up stream to find a new home and feeding ground, they have settled today and feeding well??? that opens new questions. All the big one in pond are staying put, just the little ones wanting to migrate. I will try to get some photos when the rain is gone, no promises though. The other thing that caught our eye was nesting Gobies of various species, we were out looking for Fresh water Morays Monday night, to see what they were doing and what condition they are in, did not see any. However there was clean send around a lot of rocks and when we carefully lifted them, each one had a pair of gobies under it, species from 3cm to 12cm in pairs. We surmised they knew there was a flood event coming to wash the fry down stream to feed and grow and the Gobies were right, its flooding. There is much more can be written, but at the risk of boring every one I will stop there, except to say I spotted the BIGGEST Croc I have ever seen last night it was nearly 6 mts or 17 foot old measurements and it scared the krap out of me, normally I will frighten them off and do what I was going to do, I went home sooken stuff that. Bob PS I have herd that the Riffles and Macro's climb Barron falls in very large numbers, if I can get near it at the right time I will take a camera for sure, talking 100s of thousands???

That's very kind of you Gary I would be worried that can the cherries and crs co-exist. Especially in the hands of myself, with no experience of either. Would you set the tank PH for cherries or crs? Is interstate postage expensive for shrimp? By the way the peacock moss I got off you is doing well. It is very good quality Thanks Andy

Best shrimp forum in the world, period. I think you will find that most breeders don't sell adult trios because to them (myself included) a saddled female is about to become 30 more shrimp, and in a few short months 60, 90, 120... for some reason its easier to part with our juvi's.With Neocaridina/Cherries Breeders tend to sell in packs of 10 because that's roughly the number most people consider a good number to start a colony, you will most likely get a few females, 5 or 6 if you are lucky! and a pack of 10 juvis will normally cost you about the same as a trio anyway so it makes more sense for a newbie to start this way. when you move up to TBs they are sold individually because they are a lot more expensive and you will not find anyone willing to part with an adult female Taiwan Bee without offering them ridiculous amounts of money. As for the culls its like Newbreed was saying. Most breeders don't want to sell culls because chances are the buyer will post up a thread or tell his friends- "look at my new fantastic shrimp, they from such&such" embarrassing the breeder because only his rejects are on show. Also be wary if someone is willing to sell you a trio (I doubt that it would happen on SKF but other forums/Facebook) some doggy people will sell you their oldest females, the ones they believe are done producing shrimplets. I was a sucker then I first started out! Hope that helps and if I have not already said it, Welcome to the SKF community! :) And yes Nogi you are biased. But that dosnt mean its not true :P

Yeah this is a great forum to be a part of. But I could be biased in saying so lol

I've been able to get a really nice shot in the last couple of days. I think this blue challenges the blue variants of the cherry shrimp and all without line breeding so far. I'm very tempted to separate the blue forms to see if (1) they maintain their colour, (2) they are not sex specific and (3) if it can be line bred. However I might wait a week or two to see how the rest of the shrimp colour up (or not). They seem to be getting better and better with age. I've not changed anything in regards to the foods I'm feeding, or the water parameters.

Glad you like it, so more pictures it is! Here we go: The show: Around the shrimp show: Sale of shrimp and all kind of animals: Chris Lukhaup & Friends spreading the shrimp faith: Why it was so crowded you ask? Not only because of all the shrimp lovers, but there were many more shows and activities: And now some aquascaping! And since it was valentine, I took this one home for the wife: And last but so much not least, the most incredible aquascape I ever seen on a aquascape contest:

I've also noticed this among my PRL. I've been a huge PRL fan for so long now and on many occasions when opportunity arise and funds are plentiful, I would find myself picking up a couple of PRL to add to my collection. A few things I've noticed with the PRL as of late.. 1. My first generation of PRL (the oldest purchased PRL) demonstrated the BEST colors. Coincidentally, the typically Tiger Tooth or Saber Tooth (as Shrimpy Daddy has put it) has always ranked highest in terms of coloration when compared to the SSS Grades (speaking matter of factly in terms of the "OLD" grading systems based on patterns ranging from C - SSS Mosura). 2. As the PRL crazed continue to grow and become more widely available (speaking in terms of availability in NA as we are usually 2-3 years behind on all shrimping related trends) the once signature Tiger Tooth/Saber Tooth patterns have given way to the more SSS grades (almost all white with only the red heads) patterns. I found that amongst these contains the most unstable and "ugly" colors. It's at these grades that I begin to see the "yellow" and "pinkish-red" colors. Conclusion: I do believe that the best "PRL" ranging in the lower pattern grades S-SS (No-Entry - Tiger's Tooth/Saber Tooth patterns). I feel like the way most breeders of these high grades PRL are doing somesort of genetic mixing (what mixing and combination, I do not know) but it has brought forth a lot of genetic instability tainting in the once good PRL name. As such, I don't even bother with the fancy (and often heavily marketed and advertised) SSS Grade PRL with the red head and complete white bodies and white legs. I found that 90% of the time they look grade in pictures but are lacklustre in person. I just want to add that the JRB and JBB (Japanese Black Bees or should it be Japanese Black Line?) all arrived safely and is currently undergoing the acclimating process. I'll be able to add them to my tanks in a few hours. And yes, the "PRL" I purchased from HK a year ago are terrible (similar to the SSS PRL I bought from a local importer a few months ago) and have been kept separated inside their own breeder box. I found the pinkish - yellow color really ugly and so I've made little effort to continue working on them. Id like to add some iPhone pictures of the JRB I hand selected while in Japan. Also, while I was in Japan I noticed that of the 4 top tier JRB tanks (prices ranging from ¥30000-50000) 3 of said tanks consisted of all Red Legged JRB with patterns ranging from Hino No-Entry - Tiger's Tooth/Saber Tooth. Examples: Winners I hand picked: Disclaimer: I know these pictures can look subjective as it's not a macro photography and iphone photos don't say much, but I do plan on getting a few pictures of these guys with my X-T1 + Macro lens when they acclimate and color up.
