After a 7 months hiatus living at our house during renovations I gave the planted tank a good going over before moving it back into its position in the house. (It's been under drop sheets for a few months and was coated in bga on the glass. Good news is most of the plants were plugging away even with only one functional flouro tube out of 4. Co2 is now back up and running too and I'm already seeing new growth. I lost a few erios which is upsetting but one has survived and hopefully in a few months will be up to dividing. We do have them here...in pet stores or some plant nurseries also have them.

Here is how I track the names of the buces. Just superglue little pieces of plastic with the name written on in permanent marker. I use pieces of an icecream container. Engraving the name into the plastic works too and is probably less likely to rub off.

Very nice mate. A bit more yellow in the tail and rostrum and she'd be getting close to a super tiger.

Never heard of them, but they look cool. Being essentially wood, they are unlikely to be allowable imports.

Hi all :) thanks for the welcome. Have now had red cherry shrimp and yellows for around 12 months. Just really learning the basics first before I move on to more expensive shrimp. Cant wait to learn more!

The author sent me a copy this morning. I had a quick breeze through it, It looks like really good reading. First thoughts are that it appears the new types of shrimp (anything that has been crossed with tigers) are actually hybrids. Hmmm. I wonder if we are going to see the heated hybrid vs. pure bred arguments that occur for fish. Luckily the CRS we have today are so far removed from wild type through selective breeding that I dont think there is any reason not to hybridise them. Some people will always like the classics (CRS/CBS) so I dont think their genetics are going to disappear.

Hello, to make it a little clearer. The beeshrimp has not been scientifically described and thus got the temporary name Caridina cf. cantonensis, which means "looks like a cantonensis, but it is not." After several years of microscopic and genetic studies Werner Klotz and Thomas von Rintelen have their scientific work now completed and given to the beeshrimp its own name. The new name is "Caridina logemanni", in reference to two German brothers with the last name Logemann, who are very active in the German shrimp Scene. In addition Werner Klotz and Thomas von Rintelen have also described the tiger shrimp, which now has the name "Caridina mariae". Greetings from Germany Lars

Ron, go with whichever suits your budget. The Hailea150 is sufficient for cooling your 55L tank. But then again, so is the Hailea 100. As for brands, the Hailea and Resun brands are ok. Resun is a bit cheaper. JBJ is a great all rounder in efficiency, quietness and price. Teco is a step up in price and emphasises on quietness. The TC range has heater incorporated, so you can do away with traditional heaters. Tradewinds always seem to come out on top of reviews - but don't know where you can buy this in Oz. Tip - Whatever chiller you end up with, the worst thing you can do for it is to store it in an enclosed cabinet, like the aquarium cabinet. The heat just circulates and the unit becomes inefficient. The chiller's radiator needs to be outside a cabinet to access cool air and expel hot air. Another tip - Once you have more than one tank to cool, and you don't have a sump type setup, and you start getting into the $thousands, you might as well look into reserve cycle air conditioners that will cool the whole room.
