I'm feeling the bug biting again, i left all my tanks to fend for themselves and had many losses i still have pairs of most types so it won't take long. I managed to break a couple of vertebrate in my back at work so their was no maintenance happening, end result was tds 430, Gh 12, Kh 40 and a lot of death. After six months of waiting and pain I finally got approved for the operation i need which is happening next week and I feel like I have a new lease on life. I have a red bolt program, a blue diamond cherry program and a fire red program happening at the moment. I have decided I am only going to only keep sss grade cbs and crs, just need to get some. I am inspired by reading a few threads on here and I am slowly preparing for taiwan bees, i have had a half hearted attempt at mishlings before but I lost them in the last few months. THE PLAN I have a 3x15x18 that is next to the lounge I'm going to be basically stuck on for the next six weeks whilst I recover so that will be the Tb tank, plenty of hours of shrimp staring lol. As i am only on a part wage from workcover it will take around four weeks to get it full of shrimp. The tank is already cycled with gravel and has some peacock moss, blyxa japonica and anubias. I also have two Ottos in there. I have added a 7cm layer of shrimp soil on top of the gravel and when I get out of hospital it will be ready for shrimp. I am getting some cbs mishlings from gbang and hopefully at least one panda if the cash is available. Over the following couple of weeks i will save to buy a bluebolt to go in with them. I am thinking with cbs mish, bb and panda i should get a good mix of shrimplets. I have a divided two foot downstairs that is the failed mish tank and I will use that to separate the different types of Tb i hopefully get from the first drops and the rest will make history. I would like to thank the community here, although I haven't posted much I have been reading alot and that has inspired me to keep going and expand the collection. Sorry about the long post, i just had to make my plan public so it will keep me on track. To the future Cheers mick

Great to hear that you are re invigorated after your break and the shrimp look amazing. I know how you feel about going in no set direction with breeding. I have been doing some silly things lately and lost alot of shrimp but the upside is i know what i want to do now just gotta get my back surgery done this week and get the cash up to buy what i need to take it to the next level. Sorry for going on about myself but after reading your thread and especially seeing the pics i feel inspired to move forward. Thank you. Cheers mick

Thanks guys. One of the new blue babies has proper white pinto markings down its back- hope they survive in their new tanks. It is very exciting to suddenly find these shrimp in my tanks when I wasn't actually trying to breed them. Thanks must go to BB as I'm sure the mothers must come from his MONGRELS :)

Tanks are looking great Ineke and the results of your all your hard work are already showing in those AMAZING babys CONGRATS The Elos importer is actually located here in SA about 1hr away from adelaide. I always buy it from a LFS on anzac highway since they most always keep stock of it for serius planted tank people and now shrimp people, but most stores here in Adelaide can order it in. Its not cheap but the main reason that i swear by it is that it gives me results in ALL my tanks both planted and shrimp.

woohoo 2 more blue babies found not sure if they might be a bit smaller so from a different drop. I was just starting to pull my TB/Mischling/Tibee tank down -caught the adults and thought there were no babies left but one of the Tibees had I thought dropped her eggs but there were heaps of very tiny babies everywhere so lucky I checked before I started siphoning. I caught a few but they are so tiny I will have to leave them for a week or so to let them grow a bit. That means my redoing of tanks has stalled - only managed to do 4 but never mind plenty of time to get the other 6 done once the babies have grown a bit.

Love your shrimp room. And the babies are gorgeous.

I'm loving the tank with all the babies in - the patterns are interesting even though the babies are still quite tiny - the new lights allow me to get a better idea of what they are. I have quite a few white babies coming through-I have some whites from Ninja's breeding that have BB parantage - and some are showing a touch of blue others look to have a bit of black striping so probably Tibees babies so they will be very interesting too! There are heaps of babies all swimming around quite happily with no adults in that tank at all. I will just take out any that are really interesting as they mature and also any that I think are females for different breeding projects. there are a lot of Mischlings in there but unfortunately I don't now know their F number -Mums were F7/8 but I don't know if they are from TB, Mischling or Tibee fathers so may have lost some F factor in them. I'm not worried as now I have my 2 main males- the Shadow Panda and the OEBT in tanks with females only and will be able to keep track of the babies. My female OEBT molted yesterday and the male has been searching for her -well as he is dancing and she is hiding i take it she was the one that shed- it was definitely a tiger because the eye area shows orange! so maybe a berried Tiger soon too -fingers crossed

Here are some pictures -I can't get a full room view so you don't get a real idea of the difference and the lights are just sitting on top of the tanks at the moment but Alan is going to hang them for me so they will be out of my way. I have a few pictures of the ??? Pintos -the Reds came out to play but the Blacks are not obliging at the moment bu tthey do look the same. I am pretty sure these must be from the surprise dip Tibee BB did for me in his mongrel tank. Just not sure which one! Also a picture of an F3 Tibee from my TB and Tibee- a little black and white guy. The quality of the Pinto pictures are not great as the babies are still pretty small and I don't have a macro so just zoomed to get the pattern

Just a quick pic update One of my favourite's....

alternatively you can siphon out some of the old substrate -maybe a quarter of the tank- add new substrate slowly to minimise dust but you will get some clouding regardless- let that settle for a few days and then do another quarter etc. I have done this without problems and must have been told by someone else on the forum at some stage. keep an eye out for ammonia spike but if you siphon carefully you should be OK. I know it works and my shrimp have been fine. Eshrimp suggested moving all the plants to one side so the shrimplets will be away from the area you are suctioning as they will stay near the moss.. The soil comes out quite well but keep an eye on how much water you are taking out as you will need to replace it with fresh water.
