Finally setting up my 50L Tank woo!

Hey all what's cracking?

So decided its time I started setting up my 50L tank. All sorted and unpacked in my new house so decided I now have the time I want to start up the new project.

Last time around I set up my 20L nano with the idea of upgrading it to CBS when I gained more experience. Well, Glad I made that decision because experience is something I defiantly needed, And in some respect still need.

Last time I set up the 20L with 'up aqua shrimp sand' which by all means is perfect and awesome substrate. No ammonia spikes, A stable pH of 6.4 by every aspect. Perfect, For CRS/CBS that is.... For Cherries which I was keeping. Well, Really not so much so.

This time I have gone for some typical, normal, mini pebbles which I am hoping to keep a pH of around 7.2 or so. more suited for Cherries.

I've also purchased myself a Fluval C2 HOB filter for the 50L tank. Which I have to admit, Looks pretty bloody cool. How it handles the job will be left with the test of time.

I've placed some water sprite, and a few Anubias nana in the tank. And have it currently cycling as we speak.

Tomorrow I shall test the pH and see how it's sitting. At the moment I have no idea what the pH in the tank, Or what comes out of the tap is at all.

Oh, I also got a nice piece of gold vine for the tank also.

Gonna hit Dean up soon for a few more things to make the tank complete, Thinking a mini shimp cave, one of his driftwood creations, and a few other things maybe.

Anyways. Will keep you all updated on progress and take some pictures when it looks more like something I wanna show everyone (All your tanks are just too fricken nice, Set the bench mark so high I dont wanna make myself look pathetic lol)

Thanks for reading!!!

Oh! Also, and suggestions, idea's or opinions along the way. Please feel free to share, and criticize. All your opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated and respected. It's why I am here after all. To learn from those who know far more than I do.

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
