Beautiful shrimps Kev, well done. You said you are using zeolite as your substrate, how are you finding it? Do you use RO water with salty shrimp minerals?

Beautiful shrimps Kev, well done. You said you are using zeolite as your substrate, how are you finding it? Do you use RO water with salty shrimp minerals?

To be honest I am very very surprise with the result I am getting ATM.

Ph are rather high for my likening (7.2-7.5) to be keeping crystal, leave alone twb. But they seem to be doing alright ATM. Don't ask me why as I wouldn't have a clue.

I am not using RO water or any mineral supplement. How every do about 10% water change weekly.

My TDS is about 210-230 most of the time and Temp is keep at 24-25.

All shrimps look healthy and happy ATM. (Finger cross).

Cheers

Very interesting water parameters Kev. One of my mates rack is at almost 400 TDS, Gh 5-6. He keeps shrimps like pintos and PRLs. They are alive and doing very well.

Found this girl today.

post-134-140114895844_thumb.jpg

It is bb Tibee. She is abit of a player, hence the father could be a twb, michling or Tibee male.

Any idea what the baby will be if:

Twb male x Tibee ;

Michling x Tibee:

Tibee x Tibee;

Any help appreciated

Cheers

This is my new twb tank.

post-134-140162526644_thumb.jpg

It a 1.5 ft Komodo tank. I am using benibachi as a subtract for this tank.

It has been running for about 1 week now with no light.

Look at what is popping up on the soil.

Can anyone tell me what it is and is it shrimp safe?

It just looks like some fungus growing on any organic matter in the substrate, this should help the cycle & disappear when the cycle in nearing completion. :D

Going to move all my crystal and twb to this tank once it finish cycling.

ATM all parameter are good except for ammonia which is dark green (very very high level). I was amaze to see this as I wasn't expecting from benibachi soil.

Anyone have high ammonia reading with new setup up using banibachi soil?

Always, it helps make the bacterial culture in your filter larger. :bth_aquariumsmile1-vi:

Sorry about the dark tank.

Will setup another tank beside it once I get some free time. Not that time is cheap not free these days. ;)

Recap how my twb journey is ATM.

Everything is going well so far ;) finger cross it will continues.

Currently I have a 3ft tank with michling mix with twb and cherry (black and red rilli. In different partition). Ideally I am looking to sell my colony of red rilli and only keep the back. Because I am planning to remove the partition soon hence I don't want the cherry to mix.

Going to turn this tank into a planted tank with black cherry And michling tank.

On the other hand I have set up individual tank rack to selectively breed twb and a colony of tiger once I have the fund ready and tank setup. Which is about 2-3 months away.

1st tank on the rack:

Twb, mix with michling female only. Once a female is berried she will be move to the planted tank to relax and enjoy her 28-30 of labor ;). Off course she will return to the breed tank once she drop her little once off.

2nd tank in the rack will only house tiger shrimp.

Will tank is the plan for now.

Cheers

Just manage to setup another tank today. And the light is on for the first time.

Now it is a matter of time before the tank cycle.

Brilliant Kev! Love the plastic raiser under the sponge filters! Can never see the shrimp when they hide under there, you'll have no problem! Ingenious mate!

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
