Study tank

I figured since studies had become more hectic and I was spending more and more time at my desk I needed something nice to look at when I wanted a break.

Unfortunately it now takes longer to do assignments but its much more enjoyable now :)

As far as equipment goes, the tank is an aqua one panorama 29L and I have to say that I am quite impressed.

It has an inbuilt sump/end filter with space enough for a Eheim 25w and a mini LED.

I replaced the media in the filter and had to DIY up a screen for the filter intake but other than those slight mods its all stock.

It has about 4L of Benibachi in it and so far the shrimp seem pretty happy with it.

The plants are mostly mosses and include:

Flame moss

Mini pelia

Needle Leaf Java fern

Pheonix moss

Xmas moss (I'm pretty sure)

One unidentified moss.

At the moment I'm going to keep it for crystals only but I will see what happens down the track.

This is the view from the end:

I'm pretty sure this is Xmas moss, someone may be able to ID it correctly:) :

Finally, the inhabitants:

Thanks to Garry and Jess for these:cheerful:

I need to sort out the intake cover as the white plastic is a bit crappy but it keeps them out of the sump, all but 2 made it in the sump the first night without the cover so its working.

Also need to add some more fissidens to the goldvine as it is hidden on the back now after I built the stand and moved the tank.

That's a really nice looking tank, I love the look of the tank itself and the layout you've created.

I think if I had this in my study I'd spend more time gazing into the tank than working haha

Thanks guys.

@Triggs - I spend too much time staring at the shrimp and the various mosses :)

I have watched the mini pelia grow from a 2x2cm piece to 10x10++

I purchased the piece of driftwood at the store I thought it would fit easily... It barely fits but I think its a nice piece (had to sort through the piles for it though)

I now have 3 tanks within 2 metres of my desk :) The CRS were previously in the shed though and I haven't been spending enough time down there.

Anyone got an ID for that unknown moss?

I think it is more than likely just another bit of peacock but it may possibly be taiwan??

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
