Söchting oxidizer

Looking at Söchting oxidizer on BossAquaria. Does anyone have any experience with it? Certainly looks like a great addition to my nano tank, improving oxygen levels for my shrimps.

Definitely an addition ! My order is placed with the Bee Shrimp Mineral.....must thank Dean into the research and getting these product to our shores !

Sprae .... You must have plans for more nano tanks, breeding tanks ..... LOL, I was once contented with having 1 tank, then 2, and swore my 3rd was the last. Now I have 10 !!!

Just added the oxydator into my nano. Initial reactions;

- This mini oxydator fits well into my tank but need to make sure it's accessible from the neck of the Edge.

- Only using one catalyst as my tank is under 30L. Very easy to set up.

- First few minutes, there were lot's of mini bubbles. Probably mostly from the ceramic letting air out. As the Edge has enclosed top, I had to place it so these bubbles to the top of the neck.

- Once settled, the micro oxygen bubbles very slowly seeps out and I place it into it's permanent spot.

- The shrimps are very curious at this and quite a few are crawling over it. They are feeding now and seems fine.

That's it for now. Certain has no adverse effects that I can see to my shrimps so far. As it's only 4.9% H2O2 solution, even if it's all split/leaked I think it's mostly harmless. I will monitor my algae conditions and activity of my shrimps.

After a day there's it's certainly h2o2 being used. There's about 5-7mm gone.

Let's hope that's normal operations :)

Can you overdose? Is using the D in an undersized tank going to cause problems?

Very very nice Sprae! How will this work if I have CO2 running in the tank? Will it cause disharmony with the PH?

I don't think so, but I've got a low tech tank without the need for CO2 injections.

Just Recieved mine today, I set them both up and put 1 with 1 catalyst in my 36L and 1 with 2 catalysts in my 180L rack. Looking good... The shrimp jumped straight onto it ;)

My question is, does the catalyst wear out over time? Or is it simply a case of using solution and that's the only thing you have to replace.

The catalyst does wear out of effectiveness. But not sure how long it lasts.

over time yes it will wear out, but not for a very very long time :)

Mine is almost half empty in less than a week. I'm thinking the catalyst is new and reacting too much. Either that or my nano tank lack oxygen quite severely.

Do you have lots of surface aggitation? The edge dosent look like it would get much filled to the top?

It must have been an aluminium heatsink. The Indium in Liquid metal will eat through aluminium. Only copper or nickel plated heatsinks can be used with liquid metal. It says so on the packet, at least my pack of Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut does.

I will try to add all the old tank's shrimps at the end of August to the new tank, had a problem with my chiller this morning, try to make it more efficient by adding a better heat sink grease, I added a liquid metal grease, apparently you can't add liquid metal, when heating up, the heat sink turning to dust, along with part of the cooler inlet and outlet. So far the shrimps are ok.

I have had the new shrimps a week and have ordered some new ones(10) for delivery friday. There are probably at least 6 of the 8 alive (they may even all be alive still) but as the tank is so densely planted it is difficult to tell, but I saw 2 black and 2 red this morning, as yesterday, but I'm sure 1 red and  1 black weren't the same as the ones I saw yesterday so there are probably at least 6, if that makes any sense??? Anyway that will be it for now and I will just let the tank and shrimps do there thing once this batch are in there in a couple of days, and I can get back to the usual routine as was, before this unfortunate event wiped out the last lot. All parameters are good, including the nitrates now, but there are a lot of brown patches on the plants and moss balls still......... It all looks a bit drab and uninspiring and brown!!! I probably just need to be a bit more patient? I will do some maintenance tomorrow and a small 2L water change, then the new shrimps will go in on friday after acclimatising. The shrimps were totally uninterested in the spinach or shrimp lolly I put in at the weekend but I am assuming they have so much biofilm at this stage that that is keeping them busy and well fed and they are staying under cover until they get used to their new environment and this strange ugly monster that keeps peering in at them through the glass from time to time? I guess if some 100ft tall bloke kept peering through my window a few times a day I would be a bit nervous/reserved shall we say? I removed the spinach and the shrimp lolly and put the shrimp lolly in the betta tank and within minutes there were 10 shrimp on it so there was definitely nothing wrong with that shrimp lolly! Traps don't work on hydra. Even with planaria, it is slow and it doesn't catch them all.
