Hi usually next step would be the crystals -CRS or CBS but low grade one until you get the hang of keeping and breeding them. They need different water conditions to Cherries so although you can keep them with Cherries it is best to get the water right for the Crystals as the Cherries will adapt

WP's

TDS 80-100

PH 6.6-6.8 or even lower is ok

KH 0-2

GH 4-6

water temp 21-3

In summer you may need a chiller if you are in a hot area as they don't like prolonged periods of high temp. It is recommended to use Reverse Osmosis water especially as the grades get higher. PH buffering soil like Benibachi is highly recommended.

Shouldn't need a chiller where I am iv got another tank cycling its a 2 ft split tank should that be big enough for crs/cbs

Should be plenty, they don't need much room to live & breed comfortably. :encouragement:

Yeah I've kept them in an 8L nano tank & they've bred, better to learn with a larger volume of water though because it's more stable & easier to keep WP within the correct range. :victorious:

There is a bit of he says she says lol water changes iv been doing 10% weekly on my types of cherries would that be ok for crs/cbs just don't want to stress them to much and don't want the water to get to dirty either lol

I would only do 5% every two weeks, shrimp are like the Prius of the underwater world, very little intake & very little waste. Just be sure you don't over feed them & you won't need to change much water. :victorious:

Also remember what works for one person may not work for the next. All advice given out can vary from tank to tank so use it as a general guide and tweak it a bit as needed. Some people have great success using plain de chlorinated tap water but if and when you have a problem it is much harder to sort out. Get your water right and then its easier to find out where you may be going wrong if you have trouble.

Lower grades are easier to take care of & are less fragile, I would suggest A-S grades to start off with. :encouragement:

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
