anyone care to shed some light on what they think this is? found 2 just like this in my 36L Benibachi tank this morning and i'm excited

they seem larger than any of the recent shrimplets and not really sure who is responsible for this abomination ;)

no new plants added for at least 6 months, new shrimp came in about 3-4 months ago maybe even longer to this tank, a dozen culls from Dean.

they could be CBS babies but i have pulled all the remaining CBS shrimplets from this tank a month ago. the thing that has me intrigued is the size and coloration. if they are new CBS shrimplets they sure dont look small enough compered to other new shrimplets in the tank. colouration is unlike any other shrimp in the tank which now houses only CRS and yellows.

Variations are fun ! Perhaps determine whether it maybe a cherry ? Body/Head shape etc..... I have 2 brown shrimps in my minchling tanks, but think they came via using the same net to my cherry tanks (brown) ? Not sure yet, as I'm trying to determine whether their cherries in the 1st place.

Keep us posted, perhaps a side on view .....

So i'm still wondering what it is, my thoughts are one of the following

1. really bad quality CBS

2. Tiger of some description

3. Zebra shrimp from cairns

WOW Imke, that CRS is gorgeous. I would love a few of those in my tanks. The Blue cardinia is very impressive as well, here's hoping they will be available here soon.

I guess it is a blue caridina mutation' date=' which already has been reported. Please take a look here:

Imke do you think that could simply come CRS with a different genetic line? I know that the only CRS i added to this tank were from Dean@bossaquaria so anything could be possible.

it seems now i cant see any of my female Yellows, without disturbing the whole scape, i have not seen them for a while now only the babies, which is a real shame :(

We have this process called crossing over in inheritance theory, and in fact it can happen what shrimp breeders call spontaneous mutation in general. Seeing your pictures a second time, it may also be a neocaridina shrimp? You know that crossing between caridina and neocaridina has also been discussed a lot; however, I today more agree with the people saying it is a throw back in neocaridina patterns. Not sure, your shrimp need to grow a bit ;)

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
