Air Pump Recommendations

Hi all,

I need to upgrade my air pumps I have on my 3ft tank. I currently have this set up:

Aquamantra SP360 2 x 180L/Hr - 3L/Min

  • 1 x UP Aquarium Internal Breeder box
  • 1 x Aquamantra Large External Breeder box

    Aquaone Stella 200D 2 x 100L/Hr - 1.6L/Min
    • 1 x Aquamantra Large External Breeder box
    • 1 x Sponge filter

If I try and add anything else to either of these pumps, the flow reduces too much on the breeder boxes.

    I want to add

  • 1 x sponge filter
  • 1 x Aquamantra external breeder box
  • 4 x airstones (one for each breeder box)

So I'm looking for a pump that will run all of the above. I was thinking something like a Hailea ACO-208 Air Compressor 2100L/H - 35L/Min

    http://www.theaquariumshop.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=858&name=Hailea%20Aquarium%20Air%20compressor%20ACO-208

I have a Hailea ACO-009 that I use in the shed, but it chews 120W and is Hailea Loud! Anyone use the ACO-208 and can comment?

Maybe there is something else out there?

This one is currently running 9 sponge filters, a couple of breeder box and the rest of the air is quite nicely moving the K1 in 2 sumps.

I have it sitting on a board with a bit of sponge glued to the bottom of the board and I cant hear it the pump.

15W and $65 for 20L/ min ... I have 0 complaints with it.

The one you posted is slightly more efficient so someone else may have one to comment on but I think that anything with >1000L/h should be heaps of air for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

After reading some bad reviews on how loud the Hailea ACO-208 was I went with the Hailea V20. It arrived today and it powers everything perfectly.

Best part is it is quieter than the Aquamantra SP360 & Aquaone Stella 200D it replaced

if you make a tap to release the excess air out of the pipes and only run enough peessure for the deepest airstone it will be even quieter :)

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
