Macro Shots with DIY Lens

Today I came across an webpage showing how to use a lens from an old dvd player to take macro shots on my phone camera (samsung galaxy note 2)

here are the shots I was able to take with this DIY Mod:

One of my better cherry red females

Zoidberg from Futurama! haha

Berried Red Rilli (thanks gbang!)

2 week old red rilli shrimplet

One of my better red cherry males

Darwin Algae Shrimp (thanks mickeyG!)

2 week old shrimplet. Mother is a Red Rilli and the father is a Black Knight

It is just removing the lens, under where the CD/DVD goes in and sticking it on with tape. It can be from anything that can read a CD/DVD, I did this a while back with an old cd rom from my old PC. The link doesn't give much information. I just hacked at a old computer dvd drive until I found the lens, then stuck it to my phone with blu-tac

I would imagine it will work with any phone camera, I couldn't believe it would work so well tho!

Now that you point it out and I had a good hard look at it, it looks kinda like an Alien from the "Alien" movies. Is that what you see CNgo?

She is shrimphrodite, goddess of shrimp love and fertility. So lucky to have her bless your shrimp tank, This means you will have a lot of shrimp breeding in that tank. LOL!

I took apart and tried the lens from a $2 laser pointer which was no longer functioning and these are the results (sorry for hijacking thread aquathumb but it is DIY macro lens)

Not bad for $2, actually free as it was broken.
