CBS turning pale/red

Hi everyone

I'm relatively new to shrimp keeping but all seems to be going well in my home built iMaquarium. I have a couple of dozen shrimp: 9 adult CRS (3 berried), 6 juvenile (about 1cm) CBS and on last count a dozen or so shrimplets. My question, only 2 of my CBS are still quite solid black and white in colour. Two are quite pale and 2 seem to be now reddish brown. Any thought?

Hi..what's your WP ? , in particular, you temp and GH ?

How long have you had the shrimp for?

Sometimes when you get them from somebody who feeds colour enhancing foods and put them in your own tank with different foods some of the colour can wash out.

I have had the CBS for about 6 weeks. As I mentioned they all seem to be very happy and I've had some success with a dozen or shrimplets. I feed them Hikari shrimp cuisine, and occasionally a bit of algae wafer and some zucchini (boiled, cooled etc).

Your temp is too high for CRS/CBS, ideal temp is 22-24. My son's cherry tanks has several CRS/CBS, and they do show this characteristics when the temp goes above 25 degrees..... If you're unable to lower the temp, via a chiller, room temp etc.....freeze some water in a zip lock bag and once frozen, throw the bag in...having 2+ bags is ideal.

thanks BB. That was my thinking as well, but it's good to get confirmation. I think it's time to invest in an air conditioner for my sanity as well as the shrimps health. Not sure how I will sell that idea to the other half. It has been a pretty hot summer here in Sydney, and I have moved my tank into the coolest room of the house, but some of the frozen water bags I think will come into play. Freezing some as I write.
