Nice one Bob :)

When I get a chance to find some spare time ( hopefully soon), I'll hit you up on a field trip.

Tully Gorge is only half an hour drive for me.

cheers

Jeff

I was thinking of looking for the White and the Gold Sooty grunters at Josephine falls?. Or looking for Stiphodon Gobies down your way?

This is really amazing Northboy.

Thanks for sharing. For a newbie like me, looking through a field trip like this is an amazing eye opener.

Now if only there are such field trips in the Sydney areas.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

I was successful in getting a couple of Black Zeb's recently, now all I have to do is put the field trip report together, I also have a couple of Yellow C. indistincta and that is another field trip report and that one involves Crocs a big one to that got to close.

Hi bob, do you have any tips on shrimp spotting in the wild?

Tiny red eyes in the sand by torchlight??? As opposed to great big red eyes like Bob sees!

Big red eyes = be aware Ninja LOL.

Look for shrimp in spots that predators have a hard time getting them, like above water falls, under heavy grass banks, small creeks.

The Mountains west of Brisvags around Dayboro and Samford are OK, but usually only a single species in those places and the Bayside sandy or Blackwater creeks have some as well and you might get 2 species there.

Glass house Mountains has some good stuff to and there are Riffles in places there.

Thanks bob :) I'm hoping to have a look in the northern rivers of nsw on the weekend, I don't have high hopes but you never know!

You could do us a Sir David style video!

Here in the pristine waters of northern nsw; high in the mountain ranges where the ecosystem is in some areas largely untouched by man - I am searching for one of the most elusive freshwater species in Australia. Most often overlooked for its larger marine cousin which is relegated to the backyard barbeque, the native freshwater shrimp is becoming a highly prized trophy in its own right. Join me as I search for this most fascinating of the Australian natives.... ;)

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
