Hello guys , got question about my shrimp, got a four of them , and have no idea what species they are,

on pictures is one of them , another is hardly hiding in the ,, jungle'' looks similar but smaller and clear,

can some one please tell me something about that shrimps, regards.

No where near an expert but could be Caridina indistincta or a glass shrimp like Paratya australiensis

It will be one of two species, C. indistincta or C. longirostris. If it gets red lines on its side and has a fairly big nose its longirostris.

Where did you get it? as I have send a number of both species to Wholesalers of late.

My first instinct was longirostris but it doesn't appear to have the red stripes.

Hi northboy, for sure, is not longnose, got them to, in my tank, they flying, on the picture is another guy and I thing is a male , how about previous one , can be a female??, I saw it once how the male was seating on top big one

I got them from the (Aquaristic) aquarium shop Beaconsfield, regards

Isn't the shrimp in the first pic berried? In that case definitely female.

Looks like berried, got them just short period ,maybe three months, I bought the long nose shrimp, and others one from the pictures come from nowhere, with plants

If you are going to try to match it by colour it wont work like that, The first Key to ID is the nose then feet.

Looking at your Male photo however there is only one male shrimp that will turn Yellow and that is C. indistincta, Yes I know I said colour wont work and that is right except for C.indistincta.

The reason colour wont work is shrimp change colour with there mood and the area they come from.

It is a mistake I see made all the time and a understandable mistake, because all the shrimp we deal with are not native nor are they any thing like there wild originals, We ID them by colour and pattern, so the assumption is made, that is the way we ID all shrimp by colour, when nothing could be further from the truth.

I am not bouncing any one or picking on any one, just tying to enlighten people on out native wonders.

Look after that yellow boy and take more photos.

OH and the indistincta most likely were mixed in with the longirostris, they come from the same area ans look a lot alike.
