Fauna - black panda shrimp

Flora - bucephalandra Melawi, Susswasertang, pearl moss, cabomba

Substrate - Dennerle Shrimp Soil

Heater - 22 degrees

Hardscape - spiderwood

Would like to add some cholla wood

Some of the buce is tied onto some lava rock.

Added some cull pumpkin shrimp to check if tank is cycled lol...

Any advice would appreciated if I need to add something.. 1c60b9965e7c2f5fe47bd749c8d7bea1.jpg

Nice, would make a nice shrimp only tank... (hint, hint), haha.

Perhaps a little log cave for the Pandas for shelter, also to breed in time as well.

Yeah shrimp only man,

Will scout for a cave somewhere in South Africa, otherwise eBay. EBay might take a while, maybe diy with some pvc piping and coat it.

Wonder what coating to use for the pvc piping safe for shrimp?

Thanks for the feedback@WhySoCRS

Crystal Red Shrimp & Crystal Black Shrimp mate, beautiful shrimp, look after them.

I would strongly advise not to add fish in that tank!

I’ve started to get back into shrimp keeping & breeding & that’s what I have also, a very popular & loved shrimp.

Yeah they do breed,

Actually panda shrimp, note the black face.

I setup this tank exclusively for them and definitely no fish lol.

Will separate them from the CRS when tank is fully cycled. Should be in a week or two.

Why would you want to coat it?

To stick some gravel on it? -> use aquarium silicon.

They are Crystal Black Shrimp & Crystal Red Shrimp, Panda might just be a nick name.

Panda's are Taiwan Bees, and refers to a colour variation.

Like Red Wines are another colour variation of Taiwan Bees.

When I read this post at 4 am this morning sitting outside of work I misread this as Panda Cories, not Panda Shrimp, argh, hence the comment on a cave for breeding & not having fish & shrimp in there.

Night shift? Busy reading up on crossing pandas with crs sss, create some mischlings and strengthen the TB gene in them. When moving them I'll look for stronger mischlings and add them to this panda tank.

Hope I'm making sense...

It sounds about right for GH6 (6 drops is roughly 120 TDS). Those GH test kits are not the most accurate. And RO water reading of 3 is not unreasonable. I don't know why you would have been reading 240TDS last week and now it's a 100 points lower. I would suggest, not changing water parameter with a water change for a week, then see where it is at. Change if it gets close to 200 (say around 180-190). Let's give the tank some stability by not changing anything for a while.

I checked my TDS meter and it reads 3 on RO water and today my TDS in my tank is 133. I did a test with API and it took 6 drops so that's around 100 TDS.  I had 2 adolescents die overnight.  Should I only change water when it's over 200 TDS or should i continue with the 10% every week?  Thanks

I'll check it when I get off work tonight. I'll check my reader against pure RO water & tap, and do a GH test.  I'll also clean my TDS meter.  Thanks for your help everyone.

If u have a GH test kit, then u can do a cross check, where each GH value in RO water made with SS equals about 20 ppm, e.g. GH 6 water will give you about 120 ppm.

Are you sure the new reading is correct as that sounds unlikely, and I would have thought you would have had shrimps dying  with that sort of decrease. Do you have a second way of checking the TDS, or can you take a sample to a fish shop for them to test? I can't think of any reason that would happen or even heard of that before? Even if you had put pure RO water in last water change it wouldn't have dropped that far! If it is currently the TDS113 it will make adjusting easy as you just mix the water to the desired end TDS figure (140ish) and it will slowly go up to that. Simon
