Problem with GH and KH test kit...

Shrimpy

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, so today i decided to buy a GH and KH test kit.... it was going well so far, until i came home and unboxed the test kit.

Normally the gH test solution should be green, however mine is yellow.......also the Kh test solution is orange... please help.

From memory I think that is correct. Well with the API test kits anyway. You drop them in and watch very closely for the change of colour, some kits are easier to tell the difference than others.

The API GH test kit is green (turns to orange at the end of the testing), and KH is orange (turns to green at the end of the testing). As Trav80 says....depends on brand etc..

The brand is API , the kh solution is working well... just frustrated why the solution for the gh API is yellow instead of green..

My bad, the GH should be Green out of the bottle. I would maybe think about contacting who you purchased it from so they can do some further investigation. It might be that they have changed the indicator colour or it might just be a dodgy bottle.

Hmm yeah each time i drop the yellow GH indicator it just goes dark and darker yellow.... i think this kit was dodgy... it might of even been used..as i saw some stains on the cap

It should go light yellow, yellow, deeper yellow, almost orange, then green. With each drop adding another degree of GH. For my tank which is always on GH 6, the fifth drop is orange then sixth drop turns it green.

Ours is doing the same Shrimpy - it just goes yellow (same colour as indicator fluid in thebottle) i could add 100 drops and it wont change colour from the yellow in the bottle! Even with distilled water, tap water etc
