daphnia

Featured Replies

i've found one of my tanks with a good number of small white things jiggling around on the glass, they seem to have two little antennae at the front,. i couldn't get a good picture but i believe they are daphnia. they are white in colour, they can swim but not very effectively, they're a few MM in size i guess.

is daphnia common? is there something else they could be? i think they're too big to be ostracoda...

i'll try to get a better pic or take a short video of them doing their jiggle on the glass :-) they happily feed alongside the shrimps, they are same size as a newborn neo i guess; some are a little bigger.

NVM they are ostracods, made a simple mistake.

Was going to say that you are describing what I thought would be seed shrimp. I believe they're a good sign that you have clean water!

They're everywhere in my tank. Doing better than the damn shrimp lol

Good old seed shrimp. Never saw them in all the years when I kept fish, now they often appear in my shrimp tanks.

Never had Seed Shrimp, mind you, my tank is chock a block full of plants half the time I don't even se my normal Shrimp!

Mines came with a pack of red cherries. I'm now used to see them, and their number have decreased whilst the number of cherries increase.
