These are some more pictures of ponds I have built. Hopefully it may give others ideas.

This is a pond that was built for MIFGS 2014 in a garden design called Here and Now. This design won a gold medal for best enviromental garden. It was made using rubber EPDM liner, granite blocks, smaller granite rocks, washed white pebble and it had a new product at the time which was recycled glass that could be used as substrate or even as ground cover. The idea of the different coloured glass was that the sun would hit the glass through the water and create different coloured reflections from the water. This was a very tricky pond to build because the liner could not be fixed to the blocks as they were borrowed and had to be returned as well as the restrictions of the granite being picked by the architect. In a real situation greater depth of water could have been achieved by better selection and fixing of the liner.The plants used were Japanese Blood Grass, blue tropical water lillies.

The entire garden was edible and the idea was that the water flowed down a creek to the main pond and it was then pumped back to a hidden water tank that could then be used for feeding the plants. Some might have seen this highlighted on Better Homes and Gardens. 

Here are a couple more ponds showing what can be achieved on a smaller basis but still getting a natural looking pond.

This pond is only 150 litres . I have used volcanic rock and then various sized river pebbles.

This pond was approximately 1500 litres and incorporated a waterfall going into a creek then another small waterfall to the main pond.

This pond utilised mud rock on the waterfall, various size river pebble and for a change I wanted to use some Castlemaine Slate to break it up a bit more. I used a 3000 LPH pump going to a UV cannister filter hidden in the garden opposite and returning to the waterfall and creek.

Again impressive Callan, I would love to do something like this, I sure as hell have the time on my hands, just don't have the patience to do it though, as per usual something would go wrong and I'd crack the sads big time, haha.

 

What did the owners end up putting in these fauna wise?

The beauty of most of this, is that anyone can do it.There is no classes or training you can do to get a qualification.  Yes I think I have a bit of an eye and feel for it but the best advice is give it a go. Picture things you have seen and how it all fits together, then try to replicate it.  I always take time to do the little things like adding a rock or changing rocks, adding different size river pebbles in certain spot or plants in certain spots. It is no different really to aquascaping a tank in my opinion. The reason I put these photos up is to hopefully help others or give different ideas. Who knows maybe there will be some more ponds and maybe even a dedicated section for this and other ideas by other members.
