Outdoors Fish Tanks

I'm interested to see if any members have any outdoors aquariums/tanks going at the moment, not ponds, containers or such, but actual aquariums or tanks, heated/unheated, filtered/unfiltered, natural/unnatural light, natives.

 

Would be interesting to see some pics of them if any members do have them.

All mine are out side and unheated, BUT photos would be no good because the glass is green from algae and fish stocks are low.

 

Next week when I get new stock I might put up some photos then and might clean the front glass for the photo!!!

 

They get natural not direct light, I use a box filter in each.

If it starts with 1 I don't understand and single figures is what you see on TV at the polar ends of the earth not here.

 

I use to keep tanks out side in Brisbane to, put critters that took cold in them.

 

A lot of people freak out when they see my tanks with algae all over them, I think because they are conditioned to think algae is BAD for fish or some thing like that.

I hate the weather where I am, Winter is freezing and Summer is stinking hot, we got up to 51c a couple times last Summer, unreal weather, you can't do anything, but I sure as hell wouldn't move to the city that's for sure, I'll take the weather extremes over crowds, traffic any time.

Yes Northboy it must be terrible falling out your back door and tripping over the fantastic shrimp and various fish you have up your way.....lol.... No need for heaters not like us poor suckers down East. The closest I have is a tank I set up to experiment growing plants with using a small hang over filter and just inert sand. I use natural light from the window and no heater. It has sword, anubias petite, subwassertang, ricia which has grown into the filter, hair grass, rotolla and java moss. I originally placed fertiler blocks where I planted but nothing since.  It only has a single rifle shrimp and a single cherry in it. Ambient temp is probably about 18 degrees celcius and it drops over night by a few degrees. I think you summed it up perfectly with your statement about algae. A lot of people seem to forget that this occurs in any natural enviroment and it is perfectly natural. It is only when it gets out of control and the type of algea that is the issue. It is all about aesthetics really.

How do you deal with pest issues getting into the tanks such as dragonfly nympth etc?

I get sheets of algae growing on my cover glass and every now and again scape it into the shrimp tank. They love it.
