Ideal YCS Tank Temp

Featured Replies

What's the ideal temp for a YCS only tank? I read 22c but would like to know what other people here keep them at with success, cheers.

Someone will correct me if im wrong im sure but I've been looking into this subject a lot recently while trying to figure out how to encourage year-round breeding. im 99% sure that 22-24 is healthiest. shrimpydaddy says 26 is best for breeding.

Anyway my understanding is that the warmer it is the more likelihood there is of infections/disease so unless you're looking to breed shrimp as fast as possible then 22 or 23 should be perfect in my opinion

With this new tank I'm putting together I'll either go with Yellows or Chameleons, so just making sure about the temp before anything goes in, won't be for awhile now though seeing I'll just get everything planted and get the WP right.

I'd go with 25/26

Only because grabby is in purely for visual pleasure !!!

Nothing better then lots of shrimplets :)

What's an ideal breeding temp? Yeah not looking to breed but if they do then great, but not looking to make coin or anything from it, as you said it's purely for visual pleasure... mmm, pleasure.

If you want lots of shrimplets and its only really neos then id go 25/26

Otherwise a comfortable 23/24 will do :)

Yeah it'll either be only YCS or only Chameleons, leaning towards YCS at the moment, although I do love those Chameleons!

Chameleons will do ok In 25/26 as far as I know

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah I think you're right, I think they prefer 27/28 for breeding though, but it'll either be one or the other in the tank, not both.

FWIW I've bumped up my cherry tank temps to 26 recently.

if I were you and I was keeping ycs in new tank. depending on situation but if they are currently at a lower temp than 26 then I would definitely move them to the new tank at the lower temp first to reduce shock. then only when im sure they are happy and healthy in the new tank gradually increase temperature.

i havent found any evidence either way but I know that it's possible the raising of temp may make them think summer is coming which is the neocaridina time to breed.
