Hi everyone, thanks for having me.

I'm from the Nsw mid north coast, and have been keeping red cherry shrimp for the better part of 12 months. I only have one shrimp tank as there's not enough room in the house for another. I live with my partner and her parents, so I can't fill the place with tanks unfortunately.

Recently there was a problem with the filter on my little 10l tank which I kept my colony in, to which I lost over 60 shrimp and was left with just four. I Now have an Aquamanta Xanti 26l and have recently purchased 8 more red cherries to put in it. It also has a small school of Neon tetras. I used fluval stratum as the substrate at the advice of the local fish store, and my shrimp seem to love it.

I would like to learn more about shrimp keeping and aquascaping, and hopefully get some nice Shrimps thriving in a good tank. Unfortunately it's really hard to get shrimp in my local area, so I haven't been able to get the crs that I really want.

Oh and I also have a marine tank with two clowns, two yellow coral gobies and a peppermint shrimp :)

Any advice on what plants to use and how to get better and different varieties of shrimp would be much appreciated :)

Welcome to SKF. Plenty to see and learn here. Feel free to ask any questions someone will be sure to answer. We love to see photos of shrimp and your setup. I would make sure you can keep the cherry varieties before you move on to the Crystals as the crystals are more particular with their water parameters. Most breeders will post shrimp so you shouldn't have any problems getting what you want.if you decide to keep both varieties in the same tank keep the water parameters to Crystal requirements , the cherries will adapt better to them than trying to get the crystals to survive in cherry parameters Hope you enjoy our forum.

Thank you :) I am quite happy with my red cherries for now. Someone local is ordering in some yellows and I've agreed to go halves with her. However I've since been told that keeping both colours is a problem. If I'm not fussed on breeding my shrimp into stronger colour, is it still an issue? I might have to get another small tank after all :/ I was hoping to just have some yellows sprinkled through the tank.

How do I add photos from my phone? I could find how to on the computer but not the phone.

Welcome to SKF. I'm located in Coffs Harbour, just up the coast, so its nice to see a shrimpkeeper located nearby.

I also like the Aquamanta Xanti tanks, and have devised a method to keep the shrimplets out of the filter. Note that the Xanti's have an intake for the filter that sits about 2 inches off the bottom of the tank, and is not immediately obvious. It took me a little while to work out how my chameleons were still getting into the filter after I had added some mesh to the upper intake. I also note that the water level seems to be low in your picture. The Xantis have a sticker (on the front from memory) that shows the minimum water level needed in the tank for the pump and filter to run properly.

Thanks fishmosy :) nice to know there are others nearby. I forgot to mention in the intro and pictures that the tank was bought for our axolotl, but thbe corner got cracked while putting the lid on, so it was no longer feasible for him. The crack is small and it doesn't leak, so I placed a bubble filter in it instead and just filled it to below the crack :) Thank you for letting me know, though.
