It's time for our first meeting since the first ever Australian shrimp championship!

We look forward to seeing some new faces alongside the regulars :)

Doors open from 12ish. Address 29 grant street, Clifton hill.

We have organized 2 talks for this upcoming meet:

~The first is David Mai (Mr MSS himself).

David had the pleasure of visiting Japan earlier this year and will be providing us with some photos and insight from his trip.

It's a great way to see some sexy shrimp, learn some of the differences between the hobby here versus overseas but David can also provide comparisons between Japan and Vietnam as well (which he visited last year).

~Next up Paul O'Leary and Jamie "Newbreed" 2 of the only 5 people in Australia with the bragging right of being an Australian shrimp championship judge will be going through the procedure and standards for picking the best looking shrimp in town.

If you wondered how the shrimp were judged, how to pick the best show group for the next show or some pointers or direction for your own breeding goals then this will answer all your questions.

Following these talks we will once again have a round table discussion on shrimp keeping; this is a much more social, open discussion where everyone can chime up.

This is a great way to share your triumphs, knowledge or difficulties in the shrimp room, to gain advice, share a useful piece of wisdom or ask questions that can be difficult to find answers for or which you may not want to ask online.

We will also have a Trade table, Raffle and supper on the day.

Beverages are supplied but please bring a plate of food to share :)

IMPORTANT NOTICE ON TRADE TABLE:

Please note as always there is a 10% commission on all items sold on the trade table.

As this is our 4th meeting (5th event as the club) we will also be enforcing that:

-unless it is your first time selling on the trade table

-or attending a meeting

ONLY financial members will be allowed to sell on the trade table.

(membership is $20-40 per year and membership forms are available at each of our meeting).

I hope we get a good turn out at this meeting. It's just excellent to have a dedicated shrimp club right here in Melbourne, but there's lots of shrimpers who aren't showing up!

Come along, meet some new friends, join in the discussion on keeping shrimp!

I'll try and make it guys but not 100% sure of my schedule at the end of May. It would be good to get some good knowledge moving forward in to the tougher to keep species such as CRS etc.

Well worth it mate! I missed the first couple of meetings but I won't miss another one if I can help it. It's a great group that caters to all levels.

Great seeing regulars come back, and great seeing new faces enjoying it all.

A lot of work and effort goes into running events, makes it all worth it.

This is next weekend!

Who's coming?

Who's arty and wants to enter our logo competition?

-sigh- wish we had a NSW club

Comes back to why not start a club? Get a group of 3-5 committed people ;) and just organise a place for all shrimp nerds to hang out

I'll be there, kids or no kids, and hopefully this time I can get there on time instead of half way through lol.

Haven't missed one yet, and seeing as I am assisting Paul in his presentation, I guess I wont be missing this one either!!!

We have quite a consistent bunch of regular attendees now, and so good to have open conversations about the hobby and the how to's, its great to get all the different persectives.

If there is any chance you can make it Victorians, please do. The more the merrier and we're not too much of a scary bunch!!! lol

Can we get a little write up of your shrimp judging presentation, it's something I need to learn so I can decide what to cull instead of hoarding my shrimp

Hoping we can get the judges to write a collective "judges guide" for what is desirable/undesirable and how the point structure works.

Will have it at least a few months before the next show.

Had another great meeting. A couple of new members, some really great group discussion about disease fighting. Had a special guest in Glenn Ng drop by for a nice suprise. Not many shrimp for sale, but a lot of information was shared which is more important. Club now has a logo, and plan for the next shrimp show to be in March 2016. 0a499ba10f977093e2555e96108ee7bd.jpg So hope everyone's planning their breeding projects now.

It turned out to be yet another great meeting with many regular attendees and a few new faces!

David Mai shared images and information from a recent trip to Japan, with a special focus on Shrimp and aquascaping.

Paul gave a great speech outlining the judging criteria used and how we came to decide upon the winners. (Disciple we will have some more info for you soon)

We had an informal round table, where everyone could share their current projects, any issues or successes they are having and left it open for input and suggestions for all others in attendance. Makes for an enjoyable chat and gives everyone a chance to share their knowledge in a specific response.

I am wrapt with how many SKF folk we have in attendance, hope to see more of you in August. I have added the event to the calendar.

The group discussion I feel is one of the greatest things we've done. Love the problem solving the group achieves. Do we know what was the name of the plant with the super leaves? Really plan to look into it.
