Breeding Control

Featured Replies

It's been a while since I posted on this forum, but i'm in need of some help.

A couple months back I was complaining about the fact that my RCS were not breeding at all, and I wanted to change that. Fast forward to today, I now want the opposite. I wouldn't say that my tank is overflowing with babies, but there definitely is a lot. I was wondering if there was any way to maintain the amount of babies that are being born into my tank. I wouldn't mind investing in a fish that would eat the really tiny babies, and allow the bigger ones to live. So some suggestions would be nice! :)

Dont feed them to fish.

Sell them.

Alternatively, give them away to SKF members, as long as they pay for shipping.

Or do a swap for something else like shrimp food.

This helps keep the cost of owning shrimp down.

I agree with JayC . I've given 100's of shrimp away but have asked for the cost of postage. There are a lot of people out there willing to take culls let alone better quality shrimp. It's great for the beginners so they don't need to outlay a lot of money to start with. Failing that try catching out all the males so they can't breed, even the babies do the crazy mating dance when a female is ready to breed. That will slow the breeding down somewhat.

Agree.

If you introduce fish, the ones that stand out will get eaten first and the clear ones will survive due to better camouflage. Over time you will be reducing the quality of your stock.

Yep, share the SKF love! :thumbsu:

And your shrimps will learn to hide from fishes and you no longer see them prancing about. :-)

Great feedback! When these babies grow a little bit more, i'll make sure to check if anyone wants to buy a few.
