DIY CO2

Featured Replies

Well I jumped down to good ol' Woolworths this morning and grabbed some Citric Acid and Bi Carb Soda and threw a DIY CO2 together for the tank, just a test run, see how it goes, so far so good, have it running at 1 bps for a 45l tank.

Heres a dodgy iPhone 5s pic.

Just checked the DIY CO2, still going well, lights out so turned the CO2 off, have a magnetic solenoid coming so will give that a crack also once hooked up.

The diffuser was only spitting large bubbles out but has finally starting flowing finer bubbles, still a few larger ones though, seems to be going alright, not sure I'll do a refill once it's empty but see what happens I guess, just wanted to try it and see how it goes, the shrimp like doing a run through the bubbles, ha.

Co2 makes a big difference to plant growth and colour. I really notice a difference when it runs out..... Everything just seems to stop!

I love the idea of generating your own. No trips to the home brew shop for refills

All shrimp and bristlenose seem more active also I've noticed, all sitting around the diffuser and doing runs through the bubbles.

I'm done, it last 2, maybe 3 days, I'm not doing it again, over and out.

Do you mean the DIY solution was used up after 2-3 days or did something else happen?

Solution was used up mate.

It should last much longer than that; you can get easy 2 weeks from a yeast brew which is the way to go if you can't make the citric acid system work. Check out this thread, the aussie about half way down page 3 seems to have worked it out. Sounds like you've probably got a leak.

Hope that helps. There's also some basic instructions on this kit for anyone interested:

Yep, try using yeast, sugar & water, should last a lot longer. :thumbsu:

I'm not going to bother with it for awhile, just going to sort this tank out and get it going again, will look at CO2 somewhere down the track.
