shrimplet survival

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm having a bit of trouble with shrimplets dieing in my tiger/tibee tank.

Adults are happily breeding but I'm not getting alot through shrimplet stage.

The only thing I can think is the temp is at 28.

Any ideas or suggestions please.

Parameters are ph 5.5 gh 5 Kh 1 tds 230 temp 28.

I know the ph is a little low for them but the ista soil is buffering longer than I expected lol

Cheers mick

That's a first

Could be temp.

What about biofilm? Do you need to produce more?

There is plenty of biofilm, i only clean the front panel of glass. I also feed powdered food once a week.

I can't believe that a 2cm thick layer of ista has been buffering for over 12 months lol.

There is a fair few snails could they be eating the goodness from the biofilm and leaving nothing for shrimplets?

Cheers mick

Most likely temp, my shrimplets never survived at 28c.

Temperature I bet. All my tiger shrimps have passed away once the tank reached 30°C  : CRYING :

My Tibees/Taitibees are in ph 5.5 - nearly all my tanks are that low, temp usually never over 24 TDS usually 150 - 170 . Shrimplets survival rate is high in all tanks however I feed powdered food everyday when shrimplets in tank. I am not have any planaria problems despite the daily feeding. I use one of the very small spoons that come with the genchem biozyme. I use a mixture of homemade powdered food and Boss Aquaria powdered baby food. My CRS Colony photo thread shows how well they are doing and my other 10 tanks have similar success. So perhaps try feeding just a bit more when the shrimplets are in the tank. If you can get the temp lower I would also try that.

I have seen adult shrimp flick the babies away from food so I often use a syringe , mix the powder with water and squirt it into the moss.

Thanks peeps, it was temp related. The tank is down to 22 and shrimplets everywhere.

I only put powdered food in once a week, other days are crack, snow, barley pellets and nls thera a. I also have mulberry leaves and ial in my tanks always.

Cheers mick
