High temp leads to high pH?

Featured Replies

I notice of increasing temp (heaters are off) for all my 3 tanks. What confuse me that my pH also have gone up. I use ADA Malaya and I reckon pH should be stabilised due to substrate and I have put sufficient mineral balls (bos aquaria mineral balls). Is it normal of high temp leads to high pH?

ive never heard of this, im going to say no its not normal for the ph to rise when higher temps

my only guess is the ADA Malaya has been used for to long and has no more effect on the ph, and the water your adding when you do a water change has higher ph, resulting in your higher ph

Actually, temperature does indeed affect pH reading.

However, not as you describe what you are experiencing albash.

Normally, as temperature raises, pH falls, but we are only talking about small amounts at 25-30degC.

However, in your tank it's the opposite, so something else is causing the pH to rise.

Perplex has given one possibility.

CO2 is the other. Where you pumping CO2 into the tank for plants? Your CO2 tank might be running low or empty.

Let me find a good explanation on temperature affecting pH....

found one.

oh so just a super small amount, you wont even really notice it when testing .16 over 10c, witch the scale is .2 difference between each reading (i think, cant remember :P)

but still good to know

Thanks Jayc for the explanation. My tanks don't have CO2 equipment.

You mentioned persplex - how did it cause pH spike?

you didnt say yours spiked, you said just went up.

maybe give us some readings of what your ph was and is now and how long between tests, can you explain your spike? was it you did water change and tested ph all was ok, then next day tested it and its heaps high?

what water do you use for water changing?
