time in transit

Featured Replies

So due to a monumental kcuf up by an Australia post staff member,i have a bunch of snowball shrimp on a truck on its way to Victoria. I posted it express yeaterday to find out the cretin the served me forgot some very important paperwork. Meaning they will probably get to the new home Tuesday next week.(they are double breather baged, bubble rapped and in a Styrofoam box)

So My question is how long have you had shrimp in Transit for an they still arrive alive alive?

I've heard of people receiving shrimp after a week, due to a similar kcuf up by Lost-ralia post.

So hopefully they will still turn up ok.

Yep, I've seen more than two weeks in breather bags & surviving, a week should be fine, even double bagged. :thumbsu:

Yeah I've had shrimp take about a week to arrive and be fine, in winter. At this time of year down here it's down to what happens to the bag. If it's left in a truck in the sun during the day, bad news. Good news is the next week in Melbourne looks pretty shrimp-friendly compared to the last few days. Good luck, Buck!

Cheers guys im feeling more hopeful now :D

I have had 10 days in non breather bags. Heat is the one that will get them and the rough handling by AP.

The major over looked thing is to starve them a couple of day before they are packed, I bang on about it all the time but it is a must when shipping any aquatic critter, why?  it stops or cuts down the poop in the bags = safe shipping.

Yeah I have seen some people talk about "preparing shrimp" to send, I presume they are starving them out so they dont crap heaps in transit like you said, I really need to get some breeding boxs for my new set up to keep shrimp im selling to to do this kind of stuff

Sometimes people put prime or similar in the bag to neutralise any ammonia that's produced too. A few years ago a mate put some activated carbon loose in the bags with shrimp he sent and that was good too.

Breeder boxes to keep the sale shrimp away from food is a good idea.

HA HA there is never enough tanks, dam I know that one. How ever there is no shortage of water up here this weekend, after 480mm last weekend we are tipped to get 300 to 500mm this weekend, dam wet but needed

Starving them a couple of day wont do any harm and if there is a F up you have that bit extra insurance.
