Featured Replies

I dropped by Aquarist Chamber to stock up on some goodies for myself and I thought the members here may enjoy some pictures. Please excuse the picture quality I only had my IPad.

Thanks to Alvin for allowing me to take these pictures. My iPad is about to die so ill load these and add more tomorrow.

Lol I planned on staying for 30 mins but ended up shrimp staring for 4 hours, my wife thought I got kidnapped lol. Chatted to a local shrimpkeeper and got invited for lunch. Got some tips from Alvin himself too. Great day out. Hope your guys enjoy these pics as much as I do lol

so much envy! it looks amazing!  those canister pipes look like they're going in to the substraight, as if they are attached to an under gravle filter?

Nice, thanks for sharing. I'm following Alvin for some time and lot of respect how he build als this. Also his breeding chambers looks impressive from the pictures i've seen. Did he show them too or were they in a different location?

What a fantastic looking store and with so many gorgeous shrimp! Lucky my sister has just moved back here after living in Singapore for several years, otherwise I'd be badgering my partner to go over to see her even worse than I was before just so I could lose a few hours in The Aquarists Chamber lol.

Thanks for sharing some pics of your visit there Disciple

I love the simplistic look of their tanks :)

Yea they are connected to a UGF. This is the set up used in the sales area but there is a different set up in the quarantine area.

No I believe his special projects he keeps at his home. I believe Jayc was lucky enough to get a personal tour the last time he went. Unfortunately Alvin is now too busy with his shop.

He does have quarantine area at the back go the store but I was not able to take any pictures.

The tanks in the store are very simple and bare. I noticed in the quarantine area they have different set ups. I'll drop in again to discuss the set ups as I am interested with what I saw.

I'll probably drop by again. If there is anything new I'll post it up. I'll also ask the hobbyist I met if I could post sound of the pictures of the PRL he has. They were amazing.

No worries.

Awesome! Thanks for posting this up! Would love to visit one day myself, this is further inspiration!!

Awesome pics mate.

Yep, I was lucky enough to see it.

I visited bearing gifts! Maybe that's why I got to visit his personal tanks at his home.  :jig:

The bare tanks in the display/sales are for ease of viewing the shrimps you are about to purchase, and to ease catching them. Purely for commercial convenience. It doesn't mean you have to set your own tank up like that.

Alvin's personal tanks were a bit more planted but not much more. I had picks in my field trip thread.

What gifts did you give him Jay ?

Disciple i would be interested in knowing what setups he uses if he shared that information with you :)

A nice bottle of Aussie Wine. Wine is expensive in Singapore.

I wanted to bring along an SKF polo shirt, but couldn't organise myself in time before I had to fly.

Disciple if you drop by again, get pics of the filtration system.

Knowing Alvin, he probably uses Eheim canister filters for each tank in the sales/display area.

The intake pipe is connected to an underground filter. This means no prefilter is required, since the gravel and underground filter serves as a prefilter. No risk of sucking up shrimps thru the gravel!!

Not sure what he would use in the quarantine area though. Maybe the same.

Yea he showed me the setup in store. As Jayc mentioned he uses UGF with a ehiem 2213 and 2215 is setup but not used I guess it's for back up.

In the quarantine section the set up is different but I believe it is a secret as I couldn't take pictures.
