Anyone have outdoor pond setup?

I'm thinking again of doing a low maintenance pond style set-up outside for my culls. Has anyone done one recently that wants to share their experiences?

I'm interested in what plants you used for oxygenation, pump (solar?) and how you deal with mosquito larvae?

Best way I've seen is sponge filter with a long airline from inside, blue eyes for mozzies & big balls of mosses or Subwassertang. :thumbsu:

Won't the blue eyes eat the shrimp?

I have a very makeshift setup that has survived a full year. It is only a clam shell with a thin layer of substrate. I have a clump of moss and some Vallis in a pot. There are a few charcoal logs for the shrimp to hide in, there are no filters, heaters or lights , no fish. It is kept under a pergola so gets no sun. My culls continue to breed in there - although the number is low at the moment I have had a huge colony in there. The water is crystal clear and although I have had a few mossies there haven't been enough to worry us. It gets very hot and very cold out there but the shrimp survive well. I top the water up with the water I siphon from my tanks. Adelaide gets extremes of temperature and I have noticed in the winter the shrimp are slow and easier to catch but otherwise they all seem good. If I were to setup again I would pick a deeper pond to help lessen temperature fluctuations but otherwise I'm happy with the shrimp in there. The last time I caught some out I got over 100 various size shrimp.

Hi Nogi

The Blue eyes will eat a few, but they produce well enough to out breed them,  if  youhave lots of plants it helps big time,

I have 2 x 25cm Pipe fish in a 1000lt pond with my Cherries and they produce enough for me year round.

The pond if over grown at the moment, so if I get around to clearing it  l take a couple of photos
