Liquid CO2

What's good these days for CO2 supplement? I used to use CO2 gas and high light setup but I'm moving away from that and towards low light and liquid/tablet CO2. Only keep native and cherries in the tank so fairly hardy tankmates.

Flourish excell ?

Sorry, should have mentioned, looking for an alternative to Excel. That stuff gets pricey when using in a 4ft.

What about aquagreens dino spit I think it is

Aaaah yeah I remember the stuff now. I'll take a look. I assume they are safe for shrimp?

Probably as safe as flourish excell

Yep definitely go with Aquagreen's dino spit. Used it regularly when I was concentrating on stemmed plants and it seemed to be safe with shrimps. However I divided the recommended 2-3 day dose into 7 daily doses. I don't use it much now as I'm concentrating on my mosses, which tend to be sensitive to it (same as all glut products including excel). Best of all Dave's Dino spit is quite concentrated, so you use less and it lasts longer. Plus its relatively cheap!

There will be moss in the tank. Did yours start to burn off?

It can cause the moss to die back, just depends on the moss. For example, I've found fissidens species generally die back but my native stringy moss doesnt seem to mind. I believe most exotic mosses like java, flame, taiwan and Xmas can handle it as long as it isn't over dosed.

You could try dosing with a quarter or half the recommended dose to start with, and then increase it if your mosses seem to be handling it OK.

If you are only going low light, the assumption is that your plants will also be low light.

Do you really need CO2 in that case?

My tanks with Moss and low light plants are still going nuts without CO2.

Something to think about. K.I.S.S.

Alternatively have you seen Tech Den's new product - Mineral block

http://www.thetechden.com.au/Ornamental_Shrimp_Mineral_Block_p/smb.htm

That includes a bit of liquid CO2, along with Astaxanthin, and of course the Calcium and Magnesium that comes in Montmorillonite clay. Might be enough for you.

I was looking at liquid CO2 just to give some new moss I got on the way a good kick start. All my other plants have died out so time to replenish.

Also spit or excell is excellent for dipping new plants with minimal melting as opposed to H2o2

AquaGreen's Dino Spit is great, I've been using it for around 8 months I think, had no dramas what so ever at all, also using Dino Pee too, couldn't ask for better stuff.

Hi Nogi,

If you are going for lowlight tank, you don't need CO2. If you keep your light low enough, constantly maintaining fertiliser, a little carbonate in the water and well aerating the water, your lowlight plant will still grow very nicely.

If you have plant that requires high light and high CO2, then you will need CO2 injection. Or else, those plants will grow leggy, even if you add carbon additive.

i dont know if ur still looking for liquid co2, but i have found that easylife carbo works great for my star moss and US fissiden moss.
