Baby shrimp

Featured Replies

What are most people survival rate of there baby shrimp?if I have 50 babies , I only have 10-15 survive. How can I raise the survival rate? Thanks

I am pretty lucky at present with almost 100%.

You need to make sure your water parameters are stable, good cover for shrimplets and mums for when they drop, lots of biofilm for babies (especially first week), and have a baby food ready to go.

There are threads on here about what other breeders use for their own baby food mixes. I tend to use Borneo Wild Bebi at the moment as I have been really successful with it.

Boss Aquaria have recently released a Baby Food, and knowing Jay's experience at breeding and raising bubs, it will be a superb start for them.

Ideally just after they've been born, try not to play around with their water at all. They are that small, any amount of stress can knock them over.

In time it will increase. My first lot of BB babies I originally saw thirty, ended up with four. Last lot of bubs 100% survival rate at twelve week mark.

I would add additional bacteria, and feed bee pollen.

Great advice Jamie & jayc, stability, biofilm, bacteria & powdered foods are all key to shrimplet survival.

Oh & my baby food has bee pollen in it, sssssshhhhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone cause it's one of the secret ingredients! :D

mine from 20% dunno how much raise after more biofilm and baby food

interesting, is it okay to buy bee pollen from random ebay seller?

is it true i should store the bee pollen into fridge?

I've not bought bee pollen from ebay, usually health food shops. But if the ebay seller is trustworthy, then it should be ok.

Bee pollen in granule form doesn't need to be stored in the fridge. But it needs to be kept dry. So don't stick wet fingers into the bottle.
