Yippeeee! Our first berried Chameleons!

Featured Replies

I was so excited to be able to pick up our first Chameleons about a month or so ago and put them in the newly finished 80cm tank with our RCS. I didn't realize how well they could mimic the RCS and I thought all of them copied the Cherrys and I can't tell which is which. Early last week I was happy to see 3 girls came out of the darker, less occupied, areas of the tank and they are a purpley grey to black with a stripe down the back. A days ago I was ecstatic to see they are berried and tonight, the lightest of the 3 girls, ventured onto a rock in the middle of the tank and I was able to get my first pics of one of our first berried Chameleons, (that I can be 100% sure is a Chameleon Shrimp, not an RCS that has lost color due to the different wps in the new tank or developed the Orange stripe at a younger age our other RCS that develop d the stripe. They got theirs when they passed middle age lol)

Sorry for the low quality of the pics, I had to use the zoom on my iPhone to be able to see her in the photos and they always turn out a little blurry.

Congrats. Looks like you'll soon have a tankfull!

Thanks Fishmosy & I hope so :-)

Think I'll kick our RCS out of their new home & into another tank, (for the 3rd time lol), when I hopefully finish the rack in a few months time. I'd much prefer to leave the Chameleons in this tank, then put them in a 2ft on the rack I'll eventually build

Well done. Look forward to the updates.

Awesome stuff Jen, looks like you're becoming a native specialist, well done! :thumbsu:

I reckon I'm long way off becoming a native shrimp specialist yet Squiggle. Maybe try hard native shrimp enthusiast suits me better atm lol.

If I could keep and breed a few more natives, especially the stunning Zebra Shrimp,  and be able to tell the Red Cherrys from the Chameleons pretending to be Red Cherrys, maybe then I could come close to being a specialist lol. If they'd come close enough I could use the macro lens on my iphone to take pics of them so I could get a better closer look at them

I was lucky enough to pick up another 4 female chameleons this week and these 4 were hand picked as they have tiger stipes. Fingers crossed they keep their stripes and dont mimic the RCS lol
