Black neos?

Featured Replies

I saw a jet black neo at my LFS today. Never seen one before. Has anyone had experience with black neos? Are they chocolate or blue dream offpring? I did see a bright blue baby in the tank. Do they breed true most of the time?

Thanks

I think Black Cherries are just really good sakura grade Choc cherries.

Hmmmm. I think brown is brown and black is black. Do blacks breed true? Dont know. There are a few threads from guys and gals who were linebreeding them so hopefully one of them can answer.

One of my friend has a few of them for some time and as far as I know they are breeding true, have plans to introduce them to my blue neos.

I have high grade blacks and high grade Chocs, two different things. One is black, one is brown. Both have solid she'll colour and some leg colour. And yes they breed true, not 100% through.

Do you remember when u bought the black neo if they were called black rose?

Most line breeding is at the stage where black breed true and chocs breed true.

Their is two types of blue, one comes from blacks the other from red Rilli.

I haven't heard the name black rose before, that may be a name that was made up to make them seem like they are worth more.

Here's a pic of one of my blacks.

Nice pic nogi. What % looked like this in your colony? Was this the norm or exception?

They look awesome good work :)

Can't rally give you a percentage as I wasn't breeding them. I threw them in with my tank of yellows to see what would happen. Got some nice wilds out, some had dark shades of green. Would have been good to breed that green out if I had the time.

would have loved to see pictures of the dark green, don't suppose you'd still have some floating about?

Very nice guys :)

From my personal experience the best blacks have a blue underbased with no chocolate at all. Takes a lot of line breeding to get there

I've selective bred blacks for 12+ months, and my colony is breeding 80+% true ATM.
