Never Never Creek, Promised Land near Bellingen NSW

Featured Replies

Just a few pics from a day trip a few weeks back.

Perfect place for riffles and mosses. Plenty of freshwater smelt too.

WOW....Amazing trip!!! :) sure ill join if i was there... Love star moss and Micro 'fissidens' <3

Awesome mosses

What a great location. It's easy to imagine spending days there just browsing along the banks,

Awesome place, i was organising a ride from glenreagh to here on trail bikes until I broke my back at work.

I will get there one day, just gotta get an operation and recovery out of the way.

Truly beautiful part of the world.

Cheers mick

Thanks for the comments. It is a truly nice place all through the Bellinger valley and up into the Dorrigo Plateau. If you get the chance, go spend some time here.

On a different note, I've been keeping the star moss in my shrimp tank now for a couple of months. I didn't get it from the spot pictured above or even in the Bellinger valley, but I'm 99% certain it is the same species. Anyway I'm pretty disappointed with how the submersed growth looks. Anyone find this interesting?

its definitely different it looks togrow like mini trees lol

I have tried moss also ,with same result, i did read somewhere that if grown high up in tank under intense light it will do better,

But i have not tried this method yet.

Awesome! : SHOUT :

I've heard similar things as well but I really cant be bothered messing with CO2 and high light. I've got a different species that looks similar, so far its behaving better but its really too early to tell.

Great post. It is amazing there, my BIL had a property along Never Never Ck, I have fished for bass there a couple of years back. If only I knew about the moss!!

Returned to the same spot recently. The water level was down so more moss was exposed. Also found some of the largest riffles I've ever seen.

I estimate this riffle at 75-80mm. Massive.

Note the large eggs

post-51-0-07269800-1417320901_thumb.jpg

Either you have small hands or that's one huge riffle.  :stick with poke 2:

Very dark colouration as well.

Large eggs in the Paratya means no dependence on brackish water for larvae stage !!
