I think it's the low ph of around 5 causing the deaths as all the other wps are where they should be. The substrate, which was in the tank when I brought it 2nd hand, is twice as deep as it should be. I've been slowly siphoning some of it out when I do a water change. But it's taking me a long time to remove as much as I need to as its a small tank and the first time I siphoned some out, I took out to much water, around 20%, and I lost 2 shrimp that night. Since I've started removing the substrate the ph has come up a little the survival rate of adults, juvies & shrimplets has started to improve.

Thanks OzShrimp. I have a few different sized nets but when I asked about using them on some Facebook groups the replies were that it could cause an ammonia spike and kill off all the shrimp.

Yeah you would have to remove the shrimp first, thats why i havent done a soil change in 2 years.

Hope things sort itself out for you though, i counted my crs colony inclusive of all sizes and i have over 100 shrimp now at present from new shrimplets to adults

I'm not looking forward to the day I have to do a soil change. I'm hoping the soil in our RCS/TB/Mischling tank doesn't give out before I get a chance to build, set up and cycle my rack.

We lost nearly a quarter of our CRS littleuns. Thanks to a small tornado we had no power for nearly 24 hours (the shrimp tank pumps and filters were on for about 8 hours hooked up to a generator), no water till the early hours of the morning, hubby somehow dropped soap into my 20litre drum of RO water, it was stinking hot, and my partner decided to pack the generator up, that we'd borrowed to keep the shrimp tank pumps and filters running, and take it to work with him when he left at 4:00 in the morning.

We also lost all our Mischling shrimplets, including our RR TBMM's first shrimplets, as well as a lot of the juvies and Mrs Brownnose our first berried Mischling and best breeder.

But on a brighter note over the last few days I've spotted tiny litle Mischling shrimplets for the first time since the day after the tornado, and theres been lots of new little CRS shrimplets spotted in the CRS tank

This is sad new Jen.

I hope your shrimp recover strongly from this.

Sorry to hear that Jen. Having lost a major part of my collection last year I know how devastating it is. Good luck with your new babies.

Thank you Disciple & Ineke.

The good news is we have new CRS & RCS shrimplets as well as lots of berryed girls in all 3 tanks. I did spot some new Mischling shrimplets 4 days ago, but haven't seen any since, and several Mischling girls are berryed for their first time. It looks strange in the Mischling/RCS tank with so many of the Mischling shrimplets through to young juvies in there atm. I'm not sure what's happening with our Chameleon Shrimp either. I haven't spotted any young juvies yet, even though the girls have been berryed a few times.

The bad news is Miss 4, Mr 9 & Darcy dog have developed huge storm phobias since the tornado. It's almost comical watching the kids reactions to thunder & lightening. Hopefully they'll get used to it again soon and join me outside or at the windows watching the lightening shows. I'm almost as bad as them when the wind picks up now, but I hide it from them. And when we had few storms and lost power on Friday night, the poor buggers were almost hysterical with fear. But once I lit a few candles & let them watch YouTube on the Galaxy Tabs while the 3 of us had big cuddles on the couch, they soon settled down. Luckily the power came on just before they went completely flat. Poor Darcy though, she was a quivering mess at the backdoor as soon as she heard the first KABOOM and as soon as I let her inside she ran and hid under the desk. She wouldn't come out for anything, not even for liver treats or all Staffy's favorite food a hotdog! We finally coaxed her out about an hour after the power came on, 2.5 hours after the storm had finished lol.

It's time to resetup your tank.

I was thinking the same thing Nerabbit. I was hoping I'd have a few more tanks up and cycled by now so I could move the shrimp out and reset the 2ft, but unfortunately I haven't been able to get everything I need for them yet. I picked up a packet of Benibachi Fulvic Grain for it today and I'm hoping once I finish adding it, it  will help until the rack is built and cycled.

Little Miss 4 & Mr 9 came to the Shrimp Championships with me today and she found a shrimp she now loves more than CRS, Wine Reds.

But she wasn't to happy when I told her we'd have to sell every single 1 of our CRS to be able to get some money to buy them, and that would only be enough for a couple of them, lol.

Little miss 4 sounds like she has expensive bling bling taste in shrimp.

Haha yep red ruby jewels for her!

I'm glad she likes bling bling shrimp more now Jayc. I love them too and she's a lot better at twisting Daddy's arm to get what she want's than I am, lol.

Miss 4 & Mr 9 are both pestering him to hurry up and let me build a rack so we can get more shrimp. Mr 9 wants us to have CBS, Extreme KK's, Shadow Panda's, Blue Bolts, Blue Dream Cherry's, Black Cherrys and OEBT's. While Miss 4 wants to keep her, (and some of mine I snuck in), CRS, plus get Wine Reds, Ruby Reds, Red Tibees, Yellow Cherry's and Tangerine Tigers. So with a bit of luck he might give in to them soon and as the kids love to 'share' their shrimp with me, I get to look after and keep some awesome shrimp lol.
