  • Well, though I have said this is for the ultimate rack setup, your entries can be for any type of awesome setup. Doesn't have to be sumped, doesn't need to be a vertical rack system. Any type of ideal

  • Ok, here is my entry. It's not as fictitious as you might think. I have had these ideas for a very long time. But as you will see, only funds have been holding me back.   JayC. -------------------

:thumbsu:  Let me know if you need advice.

Please, please, please tell me you will finish it off in 2pac paint.

And if you're going to build it, remember the stainless steel intake and outflow pipes !!

I was thinking of how to do them and considered glass pipes, only because I can get them.

If you know somewhere I can get proper stainless ones let me know.

Mick,

Glass pipes look great ... when it's new. But since they are transparent and light gets through, algae growth is inevitable.

Stainless steel looks the part and will not let light in for algae growth. Lower maintenance, better flow rates for longer.

For the purposes of a prototype, I suggest googling "dici stainless steel inflow outflow aquarium hk".

Several choices in different sizes.

You just need two small 19mm sized holes on the side of the cabinet to let the pipes through for that stealth look.

It's good for a prototype and getting ideas. But if we can source a local manufacturer, it might be cheaper.

I have no such contacts. I'd design it slightly differently too.

I'd make the inflow with detachable mesh filter so it's shrimp proof.

There is an awesome irrigation shop down the road that has helped people setup alot of racks and tanks, i will see what they have.

I'm going away in two weeks so I will start the project when i get home.

Any other input before will be taken on board.

Well, a picture is worth a thousand words ...

Top and bottom are drawers of course.
Colour of your choice, but finished in 2pac paint. Antique USA white is nice, but I used red in the example cause white doesn't come up well in a drawing.

  • 1 month later...

My aquarium cabinet project is under way !!!!

Just costed a 4ft or 120cm sized cabinet in raw materials, and it's roughtly $550.

This includes the drawers, drawer dividers, the soft close rails, the 4cm thick benchtop.

Pics when it happens!! :)

Awesome to see a dream coming true!

Definitely want to see pics of the cabinet, mine is on hold until I'm recovered.

Cheers mick

Pics? You bet.
I'll make a journal of the build process in a separate thread soon.

Just finalising my ideas before I place the order.
