External breeder boxes for large tanks - do they exist?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Have been looking at external breeder boxes for my 8x2 tank. The tank has 10mm thickness glass, and internal bracing of around 40mm (therefore it's effectively a 50mm lip). Most of the external breeder boxes I have seen either specify up to 30mm wide tank edges, or do not specify at all.

For those with larger tanks where this type of bracing is fairly common, have you found any breeder boxes catering to wider lips/edges?

Many thanks.

I have the same problem with European bracing on most of my tanks, so I'd love to know as well. What I've been doing is make a floating container out of an ice cream tub & have an air powered uplift feeding water into the container to turn the water over nicely. :thumbsu:

As I only have the one tank iv been looking for was to do selective breeding and have the same problem I was thinking of getting one of the hang on breeders like you mentioned and modding it to sit in side my 4ft tank suspended somehow.

I think using a bought hang on breeding box that fit's with the brace will be more pleasing on the eye's in the long run then a DIY one.

Keen to see if one exist's.

ditto, but for fish in my case.

MIX02U used to make them out of perspex and they were pretty awesome but i think his gone out of the fish hobby now,

Was just looking at them if I was to run one would it be recommended to flow the water in to the tank to promote bacterial growth on the inside of the sponge?

Just buy some cheap suction cups (you might already have some), and drill your own hole - make sure it's the right size drill bit.

Add the suction cups to the breeder box and stick it inside your tank.

One that looks like the pic below is great, so it doesn't pop off.
