If they are wild caught who knows who the dad is

I'm not 100% sure these can breed in captivity

They are from NT I think dave at aquagreen breeds them.

If you got them from Dave (me) they are a pair of Northwest River Prawns, Macrobrachium bullatum whose great grandparents were caught in the Howard River near my home at Howard Springs.  They are able to breed and grow in completely fresh water.  The Howard River is good water that grows lovely water plants.

Update. I have hundreds and hundreds of these little babies. I have 2 mums who are both berried again. Looks like I'm going to move some to the pond.

That's fantastic news dude, but as we say here on the forum "pics or it didn't happen!" Hahaha.

Very cool.... best line "If you got them from Dave(me)"

I'm intrigued by aussie natives . I would love to breed a mutation.

I have hundreds of these little guys if you can see it

Thats so good, well done. Guess you'll have to start separating them out soon as they may start cannibalising each other

Is that for real cannibalising each other?

How many red cherry shrimp in a 4ft tank can I have before that starts to happen?

Cherry shrimp wont cannibalise each other (except where one is dead already). However when macros are kept in high densities they tend to fight and sometimes the loser will get eaten. Having hundreds of baby macros in a tank (even a 4ft) is probably going to be too dense as they begin to grow and mature (and start fighting for territory).

Yeah my plan is to move them over to my pond. Or sell/give away most of them

Remember these guys have claws?

  • Author

Yeah they have long claws but it's mostly the males.

Lifes a bi#$h and then you eat one???? :lolu:
