Shrimplet food

Featured Replies

Squiggles, I am wondering what is the ratio of ingredients used for your shrimplet food mix. You can PM if you like. Thanks

It's all good dude, in my homemade green mix I use equal parts Spirulina powder, Barley Grass powder, powdered bee pollen, ground up mulberry leaves & Nettle leaf powder, I usually make up a heap teaspoon of each & mix it together. I also use a mixture of powdered commercial foods, Biozyme, Amminovita-P & Gravidas. As they get older I use Kale tablets, Shirakura pellets, Algae wafers, Super Green tablets & Biomax. :victorious:

I would never have thought to grind up mulberry leaves!!!! now I know what to do with all the crumbly left over leaves:encouragement:

My little Crystals are growing heaps with a mix similar to this so you can add almost any shrimp safe food I even use a few tablets of my adult shrimps favourite pellets in the mix. When the babies are very tiny I mix the powder with water and syringe it into the moss. It's not necessary but it gets to where they are quicker

Thanks mate, i just could'nt remember all of the ingredients.

Ineke thanks for your input much appreciated

Where do you get the bee pollen powder for a decent price?

Got mine at the local health food shop, 100gm for $16.40

That reminds me, I need to grab some bee pollen!

BB Do u feed it via a feed tube or just sprinkle a bit on water surface?

I don't know about BB but just like Ineke I mix it up in some water & syringe it into the tank, otherwise it just stays on the top & clings to the sides of the tank :encouragement:

I tried this today and the shrimp went nuts... I used Maxgrowth, bee pollen, algae wafer and Spirulina flakes there was one more item but it escapes me... Pulverised it in the mortar and pestle and mixed it with water then injected into some of the moss clumps...

I mix all my food in water and syringe to all corners of the tank...

Can any excess be safely stored in the fridge or is it best to make some everytime? Yes I'm not getting the quantity just right.

I use small plastic containers to store my dry food in. If you make too much liquid I would think 24 hours might be ok but I mix my liquid for each tank individually depending on the number of babies in each tank. It only takes a few weeks and you get the hang of it.

Wise advice there Ineke, it definitely just comes with experience. Just mix up a little less each day until you get just the right amount. :encouragement:

Maybe this is why my RCS are so small(25 shrimplets).  they have been living off biofilm and 2-4 tiny peices of Hikari crab cuisine a week  for the last 2 months.   I had no Idea they needed powdered meals!  I read the beginner page and gave them a peice of blanched broccoli today. OMG  they are chowing down like crazy!   They are about 5-8 mm in length, although I saw one earlier that may be about 11-12mm.  Just estimates.  I'm glad no one was watching: me by my tank with the ruler waiting for a few shrimp to pass by the front glass and get an estimate. :special: :special: LOL.

Lol, I'm sure we've all been there dude, you would just shake your head at some of the dopey looking stuff five done :startle:

This is really helpful! I’ll need to get one of those mortar and pestles now to add to the random stuff in my shrimp room.

I always get annoyed when I put biozym in and it just goes where ever it wants across the surface and doesn’t seam to go where I want it, syringe it in dahhhh haha so simple *face palm*
