No planaria

Featured Replies

I've been over feeding my cherry shrimps to purposely have planaria in the tank to test no planaria :)

I've heard many different story regarding the use of no planaria, hence I just want to confirm the product is 110% safe for my shrimps if and when I need to used them next on my crs tanks.

So the story goes, I've added 8 full spoon in to a 4x2 x 2 only 3/4 fill. Just want to find out if any die. The tank is full of cherries and a few crs and CBS for the test.

Few pic.

Will continues the 72 hrs dose.

Ill definately be watching this thread. Ive never had to use no planeria touch wood, but have certainly heard my fair share of horror stories to go with it :(

I've used it a few times with the last causing deaths. So use it with that in mind...

Also once planaria have existed in your tank, they will keep appearing.

On the Planaria issue, I can't see how it's related to overfeeding. I feed my tanks heavily and I have never seen a single Planaria. I do keep dwarf Corydoras in each tank though. So maybe they keep them in check. But I doubt they (Corydoras) would be able to keep them to nil at all times if Planaria was simply related to overfeeding. Surely there has to be some other source for a Planaria outbreak. If it is caused from JUST overfeeding, then I guess I've been damn lucky.... or stumbled on to a natural cure.. Corydoras (hastatus & pygmaeus).

That is very interesting to know Jamie. Mind me asking what are u feeding and how offend for how many shrimps?

Since using no planaria 3-4 months ago I've not spotted a single Planaria yet -touch wood-

Make sure when you add it you mix it with some water from the tank in a cup or something first and don't just dump the scoup of powder directly into the tank also.

I feed minimum once daily(morning) per 4ft tank. They get a combination of ADA original red bee squares x 3(broken up)' date=' a couple of [b']large pinches of Genchem's 'White Pellet' and same amount of Biomax. I alternate ADA and Shirakura tablets. At night, I put in fresh Kale (latest craze, they love it), boiled for about 20 seconds then weighted to sink. If it's gone by the next night they then will get either Zucchini, Pumpkin or Baby Spinach and so on. Lately (last few weeks) I've been replacing the manufactured food with the veges in the morning. I haven't noticed any change in their behaviour thus far.

Ever since reading on that 'other place' about peoples Planaria issues coming up off and on all the time and blaming shrimp deaths on them, I've kept an eye out. Never seen one.

As for quanity of shrimp... I wouldn't have a clue. Hundreds in each. Except where those black buggers live (KK's). Unfortunately, I have to make deductions from purchase quantitiy to count:sorrow:.

That amazing Jamie.

I've had a look in the tank today to see if there are any dead shrimps, found non.

I've added another 4spoons full to the tank.

No sign of any planaria either.

kev do you add planaria to the tank directly or mix it with tank water first?

I just added directly to the tank. Always have. The powder float on the surface and sink all over the tank.

Then I would start mixing it, I'm pretty sure it's how it should be done... That way the liquid will get to every part of the tank. My tank goes completely milky when I add it.

Im finding this thread very interesting especially as Just jamie has chimed in with his/her findings,

Previously I had planaria in my shrimp tank and was dosing with No planaria. After a few weeks of still seeing planaria in there i got jack of it and stripped the tank down cleaned the substrate and re-set it up again.

Result I had no more planaria in my tank.

Happy.

My feeding regime was then limited to wednesday and sundays. This was all fine until Id find the odd shrimp munching down on another that was still semi alive. Someone suggested that they might not be getting fed enough and hence they are that hungry that they are feeding on other/weeker shrimp in the tank. So I thought I would start feeding every second day.

Result wthin a week I have noticed the first planaria in months!

Maybe Jamie just doesn't have any planeria in his tanks, if they aren't there to start with it doesn't matter how much you feed, they won't suddenly turn up. Where as if you dido have them present in your tank then overfeeding will cause them to start breeding again.

We have had great success with no planaria ... I was accidently over dosing when first using this product without any casultys :) i was adding 1 TEASPOON per 50litres instead of the little spoon in the packet ...have not seen a planaria in that tank ever since:)

No dead shrimps found today either. And no sign of any planaria as well.

No planaria work for me each and every time :)

Is it my butterfly tattoo that's causing the confusion?..... Just jokes....

...But to add to Matt_95's good point about not having Planaria to start with.. Does anyone know where 'they' come from anyway? Is it like saying 'my tank didn't have whitespot until I got that fish'? When in reality it (whitespot) can be dormant for prolonged periods. Or is it simply just transferred from new plants/cuttings/livestock?? Surely every incident can't be blamed on a transfer and or incresed feeding regime. If there is a dormant/egg stage for Planaria, is 'No-Planaria' designed to also kill the dormant/egg stage? If so, then why have sudden recurrences when it should be wiped out completely?

They come in on plants and other additions and can live unnoticed for a very long time, when the environment is favorable to them the population can explode. Even if a single one survives treatment they will continue on, planarians can divide themselves and those two can mate with each other (they posses both male and female reproductive parts) I don't know how long eggs take to hatch or if they have live young ect. A google search along the lines of flatworm reproduction Woukd probably bring something up (planeria are flatworms).

  • 1 year later...

I used in my tank. It could not kill them all. Still can see some in the tank. It maybe related to the substrate. All the tank with Mr Aqua had planaria. But the tank with ISTA have not see any yet.

If you're having trouble getting them all the I'd suggest using Internal Parasite Clear, works a treat & I haven't seen any since & no dead shrimp or shrimplets. :D

Can get it from our sponsor, AOS, I'm pretty sure he just got some more stock in. :)
