Pellia ID

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me ID this pellia?

It was traded with me as 'true pellia'

doesnt look like mini pellia to me but the strands are quite thin in comparison to other liverworts

Thanks!

pellia grows stringy if you use low ligths , grows more compact and bushy in high lights..

im not sure but the photos look like it could be subwasertang..

im not too sure though :crushed:

hopefully someone else can ID it 100% :)

It's not susswasertang, it has a mid rib.

It looks like what I used to have as Monoselenium tennerum (mind my spelling). But they are variable plants.

This is not going to help but.. I showed the photos to a colleague of mine and she recons it looks delicate so might be Riccardia or Metzgeria. She thought it growing under water might have made it more etiolated and the thallus thinner. She is an expert on hepatics (ie. liverworts).

She prefers to see it under a microscope though.

Anyway, that's my second hand 2c :)

Thanks for the reply guys!

Its definitely not sub as there is some sub right next to it and it definitely has a different look, it is much thinner and does have the mid rib

Oh thats interesting serkan.

it does look like Monosolenium tenerum, it also has that forked look

If you ever get liverworts that you want id'ed (to some extend), feel free to put a 1cm section in an envelope and send it to me and I can get my colleague to id it.

Looks like Monosolenium tenerum growing in a low tech type setup.

wats a mid rib..?

The line down the middle of the fronds.
