Bob's dam crabs AGAIN

Featured Replies

Hi All

As requested by a couple of members here is a few of the crabs I will be keeping again in the future, I don't have the spare room yet DAM. I have kept all of them in the past.

Wayne is now a Crab keeper after seeing some of them in the wild.

A lot of the Crabs even though popular belief is they are killers of every thing, can be kept with Fish and Shrimp, because they are mostly Vegos, some are not to be trusted at all and most don't even bite when handled.

As for planted tanks? yep they love them and will ask for more when they have eaten every thing LOL.

About half of the ones shown are easy to breed, just the same as Crayfish. Crayfish there is a whole new Kettle of fish (ninja)

The last one the Tiger Crab is protected, I have had them years ago and with the help of a couple of Scientists in the future I will get a permit to collect some breeders of them again.

Bob

Nice crabs Bob, stunning pics :encouragement:

That's just cruel Bob, showing off your crabs like that LOL. Are they all total aquatics or do some of them need dry land or a rock to haul out on? I bet they would love Nori sheets too. Still really taken by the purple ones with the butterflies on their backs but the red second one also looks like a little stunner.

Damn bob your crabs are huge!!!!!!! bet they gonna cause you a bit of pain if you play with them :)

I bet they would if they wanted to. I picked up a smallish yabby the other day and it latched on and drew blood. Much to my credit I didn't fling the thing to the ground, but put it back in its container of water and waited for it to let go of me. Still hurt like hell, coz it got me in the crease of the first knuckle crease. The lesson is even smallish yabbies can reach behind their heads and grab a hold of on weary fingers.

I would like some info on getting crabs... I mean keeping crabs! I have seen some really nice ones in the wild and have been tempted to bring some home.

Can you point me in the right direction? Too scared to google in case I get the wrong type of crabs!

Bob doesn't mind sharing:)

Here is a link that might help you out in the keeping of fresh water crabs department. I really like the purple/ pink one photographed supplied by Dave Wilson, (Bob can you get those ones too). http://aquaticlife.angfaqld.org.au/Crabs.htm

Hiya Bob, would love to hear the secret to keeping crabs, very interested and wouldn't know where to start. Also, I visit a lot of pet shops in search for fish and shrimp, they hardly keep any crabs. Any place in Brisbane that you can think of that sell crabs?
