Identify aquatic snails please?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Hoping that someone could identify some snails for me.  I found these the other day in a large swimming pond which I built in january this year.  I have taken them out for now, and have them in a bucket until I know if they are native or introduced.

Thanks in advance.

I think those are justnormal pond snails, the second looks lie it may be a bladder snail! I imagine they must be native if they are in an outside pond. They are natives here in UK, not sure for Australia but would think they are as they seem to be worldwide?

Hey, I'm Aussie, and can confirm that they live in the yarra (my bit of personal proof ?), and are very likely natives. Second is definitely a bladder snail. Not harmful. Considered a pest by most when found in aquaria, as with high amounts of food they can populate like rabbits.
