Thank you.

Just started aquascaping back in November of 2019. Quickly learned the cycle of life in the aquarium requires algae-eaters and fertilizer-makers (live creatures) unless chemically dosing. So, I decided to get some fire red shrimps to start. Added neon tetras and a nerite snail.

Also added Amazon frogbits, java fern, java moss and hornworts. These still need to be seen to how well they will do.

Is the tank cycled now?

I have had neons and ember tetras, with red cherry shrimp and assassin snails for many years in a tank and it works well. Most of the shrimp have reverted to wild now unfortunately, so that is a big job on the list, I have discarded 100+ so far, d'oh! It is about 30 litres!

It's been about 3 months since start up and the aquascape aquarium and filters weren't new. The aquarium had been empty of fish but water and algae were all growing in it for couple of years prior to that. So, I think it's safe to say it is cycled by now.

Nice shot of Neons and Neos (caridina).

Those fish and shrimp have fabulous colour. Early days with shrimp, but when you get young with not good colour I recommend you cull them (when that starts happening) and keep on top of it as much as you can, otherwise you end up in the mess mine has become. Short of starting again now it is difficult to get out of this cycle of wild types as they must be breeding with the reds so even setting up a new tank will mean females with eggs may already be carrying eggs of shrimp that will be wild type/poor colour?
