Back Stripe Just a Genetic Trait?

Featured Replies

Apologies if this topic has been covered. A number of my neos, of all colors, display a prominent back stripe (see picture). It is more prominent in some over others. Is this just a genetic trait or is it indicative of a subspecies? Just curious, thanks!

Me too, curious. I mixed cherry and yellow neos. e8f292b66a68e9c61307dabae103d535.jpg

The photos are good, showing the stripe.

It isn't that unusual to get a stripe now and again, most people will/have experience that with neocaridina at some stage, though I haven't yet found someone who can explain it? I think, as you say,it is just a genetic trait!

Just enjoy the diversity!

It's common, but I wonder if your GH or KH are on the low side.

Yes, genetic. Females are also more likely to get this stripe than males, but males can sometimes get it too.
