Pipefish

Featured Replies

Hi there buddies

wanted to show you pics of pipefishes I caught in the wild, Microphis brachyurus and Microphis cruentus.

Unfortunately, I now exceed the limit quota of attachments on my profile. Will try to fix that issue ...

Wow! Absolutely unique fish @Matuva.

These are fresh water ya?

Thanks ?

Yup, they were caught in a brackish spot, but they do afford fresh water with no problems.

I hope you can feed them.

I kept pipefish for a while but had enormous trouble feeding them.  They wouldn't take any prepared foods and are massive predators so I was feeding them all my small fish and all the shrimp I could throw at them.    When I got them I thought they'd eat fresh hatched brine shrimp but no they wanted MUCH bigger.   They both jumped out of the open top tank.

At the moment we feed them with mosquito larvaes and shrimplets from my reds colony (argh!)

I just received Daphnia cysts, and I hope I can breed them them fast...
