Well, after my very sad news the other day I discovered one of my cherries are berried

2nd chance at being a shrimp Mum.

We have moved all 5 of our cherries into Shrimptopia. Surely I can't fluff this up!

The 2 boys are loving it already and are exploring everything. Mum to be (Marri) is just playing with the moss balls.

It took about 2 hours to drip acclimatise them, then a further hour or two to ensure the temperature was right.

Fingers crossed, this should be easier! Lol.

  • Mum has popped. I must say, there must be well over 100 babies. Thankfully a small yield, but then I guess my odds are worse for survivors.  We have moved Mum back into the main tank. Her partner

  • LOL! Keep us updated Spongy.  What are you planning on feeding them?

  • I've had some success raising Aus native shrimp larvae in saline water by adding greenwater but never been able to get any prepared foods they would take.  I think the problem with spirulina powder is

I Hope you get lots of cherry shrimplets soon, there shouldn't be any problem breeding those, the only slight risk is that you may have stressed the mother by moving her while berried so there is a slight chance (small chance but just letting you know in case it happens, not to panic) that this batch won't come to anything. If she still has the eggs after a few days you should be fine! Cherry shrimp are really easy so all you will need to do is sit back and watch the little shrimplets grow!

Hey guys. Been a while since I posted. Done a load of new shiz. Shrimptopia has been made spectacular by some lampeye tetras and some guppies. It is such a fun tank now. Just a guestimate but I think we have at the mo: 2 amano, 6 cherry, 4 blue diamond, 3 crystal reds, 3 yellow and 2 bamboo (monster) shrimp. We have also added 4 bloodfin tetra, 2  neon  tetra stripe, 6 guppies and 5 lampeyes. My tank is amazing. Full of colour and life. Fantastic. We then set up a new tank for our new additions today......2 axolotyl!!!! OMW Happy as a pig in sh.. x

Well.... didn't want to say anything but.....I have baby cherries! I know it's not a biggy for most of you, but it's made my day. I also have 2 other cherries who are berried and a blue diamond who is gonna pop any minute. Love it. We had 6 guppies in Shrimptopia but I found them to be too bottom feedy, so moved them out. ?

How could you keep that sort of news from us?!

Woohoo! ?

So glad to hear the news. If anyone is going to celebrate this news with you, it would be the people here who started the journey with you back in August. ?

Fantastic news and great to hear how pleased you are!

I am sure the guppies would soon have found and eaten the babies so it is good you have moved them elsewhere.

Fooking snails though. Any way to reduce the size without having to do what I've been doing? x

What have you been doing?

I removed snails by putting out veggies at night and pulling them up in the morning with all the snails. I also squish any bladder snails I see on the glass. Cruel but effective.

Unfortunately the stuff that would kill snails also kills shrimps. Trap for snails also trap shrimps.

So it's really just picking them out manually, including what Crabby mentioned above.

Snails are easy to keep clear as long as you don't mind a few pretty assassin snails in the tank. They do breed but are easy to keep numbers down and much slower breeders, by just removing a few every so often. Most aquarium places sell them or ebay or:

I have them in all my tanks and are quite pretty I think? You don't need many!

Some great photos!
