My bee recently had about 5 shrimplets, I only see 5, so there could be more, its the first time for me, but I've had many cherry before.

Of all the shrimplets I see, I have one which is different, does anyone know what it is, they are all the same size, so I presume they are born these few days.

They are less than 2 mm in size, the mother is a red and white bee, the father is unknown.

It is quite difficult to see but to me it looks like one of these (they call it a ghost bee):

I've never seen one before so it is a new one on me

They soon get their colour and I am pleased that they are doing so well.

Looks like a ghost, the other already have the white and red coloration, this is the only one which is clear with white stripe.

What else is in the tank?

if it's all CRS bee shrimp, then it will be a bee shrimp with different coloring.

Just wait till it is older to try deciding what it is, as colour can change as it grows.

Before it was in a tank with mixture of caridina and Neocaridina, caridina includes Crystal Bee, Black King Kong, Red Wine King Kong, Blue Bolts and Pinto Fishbone, Neo include wild, red, yellow and Black.

Now I only have one bee (mother of the babies),3 Blue Bolts, 1 Red Cherries, 1 Yellow, 1 Black and 6 babies which I through were the babies from the bee, but they look like Neo, and just a few days 5 baby bee which is photo in this thread, the colors are already showing at 1 1/2-2mm.

The amount of babies are only estimate, this is what I can see and count at present, so there could be more.

 

Before I had a combine of over 60 caridina and Neo shrimps, just gave them to a friend recently.

You never know. There might be new evidence that Neocaridina can fertilise Caridina. It's not fact yet, so don't quote me on that.

The white one also has the strips, they are faint, but you can clearly see it on the first photo.

As JayC states the colour may change as they get older but the ones in the photos looked red wine more than crystal red and the white one looks like a ghost so fingers crossed that is what they are. I guess the ghost one may turn a colour but as you say, you can already see the markings so looking favourable that it will stay like that I would think, but they are very young yet.

The shrimplets are also very fragile at this early stage so keep the fingers crossed!

I have always been impressed with ProShrimp service. Glad they did the postage refund so quickly.

Check out these power strip with wifi function. better that using individual timer.

Using app on your phone to set timer or manual on/off, using it for my shrimp tank and my turtles, also have power backup.

That looks very interesting and maybe I will consider it, but I am just about getting into the 20th century and way off 21st century. I don't even have a mobile, well, except for a basic one in the cars glove box just in case it breaks down, though I very rarely use the car either.

Life is full of compromises and a few powercuts is a small sacrifice to live in a nice home, away from 'normality'? With so many trees around the house it is necessary for the power companies to keep up with maintenance. There is supposed to be another 2 hour power cut on thursday.........

I really spent a lot on this, from fish to shrimps, expensive filter, expensive 12 inch tank, co2, and rest of the equipment, now food and purifier.

Either android or apple, using the app to set and forget, if you don't have a smartphone, forget about buying one.

It is all VERY expensive to do it properly when you start ou,t but a lot of the stuff, including food if you don't overfeed, will last a long long time. With my shrimp tank I am just finishing my first bottle of that 'mineral fluid double' (GH+) after about a year, and the same goes for foods though by using a variety, as I do, it means they all last longer if that makes sense and those are all the first lots I got when I started so have done over a year and I haven't yet used half of any of them!

I understand what you mean though, my latest project is a Betta, and the tank and setup etc cost more than £300, luckily it isn't an issue for me, but even I kept thinking I must be made to spend all this money for a single fish?? Especially as I have tried Betta before ad failed, miserably?? Anyway, hopefully this time??

In short, it is expensive to set it up properly but then the costs are pretty negligible, I think anyway?

I used to live in the UK, and these stuff, are restricted, because I live with my parents. but now I live in Hong Kong, I work here pay rent everything is money, and Hong Kong is getting expensive.,

Hopefully you are at the end of your spending spree? Though with setting up the tank in the near future, with new substrate and changing the water that is going into it you should probably get some water test kits, if you don't already have them? I imagine they can be got from any local aquarium place out there, but again, buying the full kit, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Gh, Kh, Ph may be a bit costly when you get them all at the same time. You will get the TDS meter with the zerowater jug of coarse.

Does the white one look like it is starting to go red as JayC said it may, or is it my eyes/the photo?

The red one is a nice shade of red, was the mother a red wine or a crystal red, it looks a bit more red wine to me than crystal red? You said red bee! 

How many babies have you seen so far?

It was like that before, it might, or it could be the brain or guts, may be as jayC said, time will tell.  But just a few days, now you can see the white all over its tail stand out.

As you can see from both photo's, they are completely different, both same size. may be the white one is the ugly duckling from the rest, and grow to be a beautiful swan at the end.

So far I only spotted 5 crystal red babies including the white one at 2mm, but it's a jungle out there for them, there could be more, I haven't included the neo, I have about 6 babies, but not sure how they got there, may be it was already in the tank when I removed all the larger Neo, but didn't noticed them, they are about 6mm.

You are probably right about the white one, it may be the head and it is too young to tell. They grow quickly when young so a few weeks to a month will make all the difference. As you say it may end up being a swan, very apt if it is all white when it grows up!

I have seen multiple sources say they grow about 50% with each moult when very young, and I think this is probably about right, and they probably also moult more frequently as well, as they out grow the shell they are in so quickly?

The mother looks like a crystal red so they may end up being crystal red babies, but as you aren't sure of the father I guess, again, time will tell?
